Kitchen tool – vegetable peelers

Hello everyone,

It is L here. And per request from a good friend, Robyn who wanted me to show more things to do with the vegetable peelers that I showed here.  And that is what I did. Robyn I hope you like it.

For my lunch yesterday I decided to play around with these little handy dandy kitchen tools.

I got these from Williams Sonoma. They are known as Swissmar Peelers and come in a pack of 3. You get a straight-edge version for your typical shaving for hard vegetables. You get a serrated peeler for those delicate fruits & veggies. And a julienne peeler for cutting vegetables and fruits into fun strips.

1) The straight-edge peeler: today I used a carrot for my showing. Basically you use this tool like any other vegetable peeler.

But I also found out that using the serrated peeler works well on some hard veggies too. It helps provide a ridged texture to the vegetable!

Pretty cool! I just love the texture look to it. I think it helps jazz up the sliced carrot.

Also you can use the julienne peeler for making match stick looking carrots.

Easy to use - hold with hand on one end and slide the peeler across.

Now onto the zucchini:

Isn't so pretty. Well, I think so... got so much more character than just a plain slice of zucchini. I must say.

Now for the final result of all four different styles:

Now you may ask what to do with them? Well there are many different things you can do with these varitey of style of sliced up veggies. You can make coleslaw with them, decorate your dishes with these as your toppers, make a veggie salad with a bunch of different vegetables cut into different shapes. With the zucchini serrated slices they are wide enough that you can make a filling and wrap it with the zucchini slice!

You can use these vegetable slices with pretty much any vegetable. When I get to playing in the kitchen again with different vegetables and using the slices differently I will share with you all. I hope these helps inspire you to incorporate more veggies into your diet. Because they can be fun to play with and of course eat!

Here is what I ended up doing with mine:

I cut them all in half and placed them on top of a bed of lettuce. And than make a quick pumpkin seed tahini dressing to go on top!

Here it is all stirred around and ready to be EATEN!!! YUM!

Also I had some raw onion kale bread topped with more pumpkin seed tahini dressing!

No words to describe this but HEAVENLY!

Well that was my vegetable peeler lesson for the day. I hope you all enjoyed it. If there is ever anything you want to see how to do please let us know and we will try our very best to show you.

Till next time,

Lori

The final product looks absolutely delicious! Do you have a recipe for the dressing? I’d love to replicate it at home!

Thanks for the peeler tutorial! I have a julienne peeler like that and I guess I am not pressing hard enough. Well, I was also trying to julienne a jicama. Prolly not the best idea :) cuz it didnt fully separate. I need to try it on a carrot, thanks for reminding me :)
