First day of sprint training

by Lori and Michelle on September 7, 2009

Hello everyone,

Today was a very busy day for me and it is only Monday. I slept in today (opps)! Due to me sleeping in put me a little behind schedule today which made me run around like a mad women today.

To get my day started off right I made myself a delicious and simple green smoothie.

Green smoothie:

  • 1 organic fuji apple
  • 1/4 cup frozen organic blackberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 packet stevia
  • 2 stems of swiss chard
  • handful of cilantro
  • good pinch of lemon zest
  • 3 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric
  • pinch cayenne

Blend in blender till smooth. And enjoy!

green smoothie: it created a nice foam on top which made it seem like a cappucino, yum!

I was in the kitchen all morning working on more raw goodies to send to Michelle in OK. Some were ones we just love and some were new recipes. So we will see how they come out!I was running around it was making me hungry so I enjoyed my pre-workout snack!

Pre-workout snack:

Little almond seed rounds, it is a new recipe. Taste good!

I only had 2 of these before I headed to the gym. The only bad thing about eating them before the gym is that I did not have enough! I got hungry during my workout and got a little tired.  Lesson learned: I really need to prepare better my pre-workout meals! But sometimes you just don’t have the time to do so you gotta go with what you have on hand and make it work, right?

My workout for today was my first day of doing sprint work on the treadmill. I haven’t ran inside in the gym for awhile because lately Michelle and I have been running outside. So I knew it was going to be a challenge. Does that ever happen to you that running outside is easier than running on the treadmill? I used to love running on the treadmill all through college, but now it seems hard for me. Grrr!

Workout:

45 minutes of jog/sprint work

15 minutes of walking uphill

I first ran 25 minutes of a speed around 6.1 than proceeded to begin my sprint work. I did one minute sprints starting on 6.2 – 6.5 and with jog pace of 5.7. I kept it fairly easy sprint run today since it has been awhile. As I said earlier I started to get tired so only did 45 minutes total followed by walking uphill. Though this sprint work did get my metabolism going.

Post-workout smoothie:

Vega protein shake and water.

I kept it simple today because yet again I was in a rush to get more things checked of my list. About 45 minutes later I made myself another smoothie but this one was filled with more goodies.

Smoothie #3 for the day: water, apple, acai powder, maca, parsley

Finally dinner I was soooo hungry by the time dinner came around. Though I had to make my boyfriend some food too (pasta and veggies) So it was a late one I ended up eating around 8:30pm!!! I hate that. I try to eat before 8pm, but sometimes it doesn’t always happen.

Dinner was a nice salad with greens, romaine, garlic, nutritional yeast, and scallions. Dressing was lemon juice and apple cider vinegar. Also served salad with some of my favorite green onion bread and a glass of wine! Hey, it is labor day so we can treat ourselves to some wine!

I can not get an enough of these delicious breads. I am sure glad that I have fridge full of them!

Now I am full!Time to relax a little bit before cleaning starts. I miss my sister…. I have no cleaning buddy anymore. HAHA. Well actually Michelle would always be the one doing more of the cleaning than me. She is worried about me and cleaning. I am doing good with it though!

Twins Question:

What time do you like to have dinner? Do you try to eat before a certain time?

Till next time, from my wine glass to yours

I like to eat by 6pm usually then I have at least 3 hours before bedtime, but living in the Middle East, we have Ramadan at the moment (which means no eating in public during daylight hours if you are not muslim, as all muslims are fasting from sunrise to sunset) so it has been messing my times around. Plus I love to work out at night lately so it is all over the place! :)

Thanks for sharing I never knew that about the Middle East. And I totally understand how certain things can mess up your eating habits. It happens to me as well with me running my own my company I don’t always get to eat when I want to. I try not to dwell on it though and just enjoy food when I do get to eat it. LOL!!!

Yes going to bed on a empty (or close to empty) stomach does make a difference in my sleep too! Hope you have a great day too!
