Hey everyone,
I hope everyone stayed warm last night….crazy weather on the East Coast! We did not get any heavy snow here but check out our friend Stephanie who saw some white stuff. It is freezing out and a high chance of ice! I hate ice, especially black ice, ugh ; / Lori and I have both seen the pavements a few times before with black ice and each have had our fair share of bruises!
Glad to hear everyone enjoyed our Candy Cane Macaroon recipe, please let us know if you make them and what you think!! Seriously one of the easiest raw desserts to make ; )
Anyways both of us have been doing pretty well this week with our candida cleanse. No major complaints, have been having some type of green smoothie twice a day
We love our green smoothies…even with little to none fruit….okay sometimes they are a bit hard to get down, I am not gonna lie ; )
This one was actually a really good one!!
Keeping our meals simple. We have enjoyed our homemade water kefir about every other day

Raw homemade sauerkraut 3 times this week

Here is our stash of raw sauerkraut fermenting away

Homemade kombucha about 4 days this week. Here is our collection
* yes we have a little corner in the kitchen where we store all our ‘fermented’ foods. And we share cheese cloths
Now I know we have discussed a few times about eating fermented foods and we honestly love them. People have shared with us that they get gasy or have an upset stomach when they have fermented foods (a.k.a. good bacteria), well for me it usually helps my tummy feel better. Yes there are times when I get a little bloated, etc after eating some, but nothing too bad. So for Lori and I we still think it is important for us to incorporate them because we know over time our bodies will adjust to the increased in probiotics and start to balance. It is the waiting part that is so hard!!!
We also been having one avocado each almost everyday and coconut oil as our main two fats. We feel that our bodies have been really liking this increased in healthy fats. Also we have been washing our faces with coconut oil at night and feeling that is slowlying helping our skin (especially now due to the colder weather). Still no major improvements but small changes which we will take any change
Overall we have had decent amount of energy really turning into night owls… staying up till midnight or later!!! Our training for our marathon is not going as planned :/ But that is ok we know we can do it and as long as we believe we can run it we will!!! Mind over matter, right
We hope to run one more long run before our big day, but not sure if that is going to happen or not.
Dinner last night we tried having cooked millet. This is the first time we have had cooked millet in a year!! We topped it with fresh cilantro, olive oil, garlic and turmeric (both of which we have been having every single day to help fight any infections, etc)!! Though we love fresh garlic – I know we are weird.
Very simple yet sooooo satisfying!!!

How did we feel after eating cooked millet??? We both actually felt alright! We were both surprised that we did not get that bad of an upset stomach because we have had a cooked ‘grain’ like quinoa and buckwheat a few weeks ago and got a little bloated and gasy from them. Maybe our stomachs are slowly starting to get stronger!!!!
Still a long journey ahead but one we are so happy to be on! We know our stomachs will only get stronger and stronger each day.
And sipped on a warm hot chocolate this afternoon while writing this post

We both are looking forward to the new year and getting a chance to start fresh : ) Speaking of the new year and getting it started right have you checked our friend Gena’s Choosing Raw + Spark! Wellness January 2010 Cleanse. It is a great way to get you and someone you love a gift of health…remember it is never to late to turn your health around : )
Tomorrow Lori and I will be announcing our gift of health that we have mentioned before, so check back tomorrow. ; )
Stay warm!!
Till next time,
The Twins

So glad that the millet worked for you! I never thought it would for me, but Gena proved me otherwise. Mind over matter, for sure
Good for you!
I love that you’re staying true to your instincts and if your body’s are asking for fermented foods and you think they help, then have them, and you are. Which is great! We all have to find our own path, navigate the myriads of sometimes conflicting info, and hope for the best. Can’t wait to see what the Gift of Health is??!!!!
xooxo
You 2 ladies have so much motivation!
I love that you are making homemade kombucha and coconut oil is the best, no? I use it as a moisturizer as well as eye makeup remover.
Oooh millet. I think I saw millet sushi on someone’s blog recently and have been thinking of trying it out. And no I don’t reckon you girls have weird taste AT ALL.
Marathon training does not always go great – but way to stick it out. Some days are better than others and some weeks are better than others. What is most important is to enjoy it as much as possible and rock the actual race at the end! Good luck to yall!
Brittany, so true! We plan to try do our best at the race and enjoy it
oh! those peppermint macaroons sound SO good
definitely sounds like a perfect holiday recipe!
Thanks for the recap of your progress, ladies! Keep it up!
We definitely got hit by that storm. There is almost 2 feet of snow outside and not a plow in sight. The crazy thing is that they have been working on a drainage project in our neighborhood, so I don’t know how a plow is going to make it through anyway without tearing up everything.
At least we are all safe at home together. It’s nice to stay cozy as a family and relax. We had a busy weekend planned, full of obligations, which is hard to handle with a baby in tow.
Those holiday macaroons look so festive. I think I have all the ingredients in the house. Maybe I’ll try some while I still can’t get out.
I wish I had some millet. I haven’t had it in ages. Although I eat mostly raw, I am able to digest cooked wheat-free whole grains better than the raw sprouted stuff. I used to make a millet rosemary foccacia that reminded me of a jazzed up corn bread. I wonder where I put that recipe.
Thos eraw candy cane macaroons were amazing.. I saw WERE because I ate them in like 4.5 seconds! Thanks for sending them! So cool that you made your own kombucha! I seriously need to ferment more!!
I made your candy cane macaroons today… verdict, AMAZING. They were Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo good! Thank you so much for the fantastic recipe! I’ll be putting pictures up on my blog tomorrow with your link! And thanks for sharing how your cleanse is going! Love hearing about the progress!
FANTASTIC Lori!!! So glad to hear that you made them and that your loved them
YAY!!!
