WE MADE IT!!!
Yes we survived our second Marathon!! It was a long and cold day (was a record low for Florida) but we are very proud of ourselves for finishing it
Hard to believe it happened and it is all done! We were pretty nervous on how the cold would effect us because we do not handle cold running weather well
Thanks again to all of our friends and readers for the good luck wishes. It means a lot to us both
And congrats to all the other marathoners today – great job!
Here is how our day started:
Alarm clock going off at 2am!
Lori’s outfit!
Michelle’s outfit!
Got dressed and ate breakfast :dates, bananas, spirulina, coconut oil, agave nectar, dulse flakes, maca
Lori’s First few layers of clothing
First layer was a tank and second layer was Under Armour cold gear plus arm warmers over it!
Michelle’s layers (same kind of layers though she already put her hat on)
Next layer
Added another Under Armour cold gear sweater, nike hat, and ear warmers! (Boy does my head looked big)
We forgot to take a picture of our final outer layer. Though it was another Under Armour Jacket plus 2 gloves (our outer pair was bright PINK)! Also we had a scarf and wrapped ourselves in a blanket!!!!!!!! I think that should do it to fight off 20 degree running weather!
Though we ended up tossing the blanket right before our corral started going!
And Big Thanks for UNDER ARMOUR Clothing!!!!!!!!!!!! Our outfits saved us from freezing to death at this marathon
We loved everything we wore definitely great buys.
Next was making sure we had everything and put on racing bibs on (though never took any layers off so no one really saw our numbers)
Than it was race time – took the monorail leaving our resort to head over! Ate pre-workout snack. Hit the spot for us!
Boy it was a cold one by the time we got to the start line! Got in our corral and it was ready to go!!!! We just made it
Than we were off!!!
Our marathon plans had to be altered a little bit because our older sister who WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO RUN due to her health decided to run anyways (I do not recommend this for others who are very sick) The main reason our sister wanted to run it is because she does the Goofy and it was their 5th year anniversary and she wanted the medal (she has done 4 of them in a row- she is crazy)! Therefore, we stayed with her and started the race at a tad slower pace than we anticipated. We just did not want to leave her in case something happened.
The first 3 miles were interesting for us. We had some major technology malfunctions. First my watch went dead! Second our sister’s Garmin was giving us problems. Third, we had so much to carry due to all the layers it was getting annoying (though we did not want to take anything off because we knew it was going to be cold majority of the race)
But do to our delicious and powerful sports spirulina drink she managed to stay with us at a decent pace up until mile 15. Once we got there she decided she needed to walk a little bit more, but told us to keep going! We felt bad leaving though I know she wanted us to reach our goal.
Therefore at mile 15 we said goodbye to the sis and made sure she had plenty of spirulina coconut water and some of our raw race snacks to help her finish
Majority of the race we did a 4:1 but the last few miles we decided to just run and take walk breaks if we needed them. And that is what we did
Here is Michelle and I with a pirate. We always try to get Jack Sparrow (michelle is a HUGE FAN) though line always so long but this pirate was kind of enough to come to us!
Overall we both felt great besides the blisters and our fingers being numb. Don’t get me wrong we both were tired and feeling the pain by mile 20 though we kept pushing along.
I started breaking down around mile 23. My blisters on both feet were KILLING ME and my left calf felt like I pulled it. Michelle’s right leg was giving her problems majority of the race. Oh the joys of running a 26.2 mile run.
We managed to pull ourselves together and finish the race under 5 hours!
That was our goal!!!! We are pretty proud of ourselves because we had a lot of time to make up from running slow in beginning. And we ran the marathon without taking any pills like Tylenol!!! And we never went to bathroom the whole entire race which is a big deal because having such weak stomachs we typically have too! Our older sister managed to do the same. And she finished as well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are so proud of our sister, what a champ!
And big thanks to Nutrex Hawaiian Spriulina! What a true superfood! Not only did it get us through the marathon it helped our sick sister finish as well
We are truly grateful for such a great product. It has made her a believer that if you give your body the right ingredients/nutrition you can succeed and heal!
The only thing we ate during the race was a few of our raw race snacks and drank our spirulina coconut water! That is it and it fueled us just fine. No complaints here!
See being high raw vegans (and someone who suffers from stomach issues like us) you can do anything that anyone else can do!
You just have to be a little more open minded and creative!
We do not consider ourselves “runners” we just like good workout challenge every once in a while
Not sure if we will do another marathon but we are pretty proud of ourselves for doing 2 of them!
We came home and showered up! And put some nice warm clothes on. We were all still so COLD, not sure if we really ever got hot at the race
We enjoyed post-race pudding in the car ride pack to resort! Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Than devoured our green parsley smoothie our post-workout smoothie. Always hits the spot!
We added some coconut flakes to ours
as a little treat!
Ok time to go big out!
We will show more pictures of our race tomorrow once we download them off our sister’s husbands camera.
Till next time,
The Twins

congrats on your amazing accomplishment, and thanks for the link to the spirulina you use today. It is so expensive though!! I just bought a one lb thing for $20 which was hard enough for me to afford, I hope I didn’t waste my money on a crappy one though :/ glad yours worked so well for you!
So proud of you both, and I loved how you refuel. So many runners think they need Gu and jelly beans. I’d take coconut water and post-race pudding any day over that stuff!
congrats, you girls rock!!!!!!!
and go have some more post-race pudding, it looks great!!!
Congrats to you all! What inspirations you are for me- and the future of my running
Amazing! Many congratulations, especially since I’m sure you did NOT sign up for the sub-freezing temps when you signed up for this marathon.
