Overnight buckwheat groats

by Lori and Michelle on February 14, 2010

Happy Valentine’s Day Luvs!!!

Again congrats to the winner of our giveaway! :)

Lori and I were up to 2am last night…I know were are crazy party animals, haha.

My best friend was in town for the night and we had a lot catching up to do I guess!

Check out our Smores recipe on Crazy Sexy Life!!  Thank you Lauren and the rest of the amazing people at CSL!.

We also want to wish our friend Brittany Happy 25th Birthday!!

We made some overnight oats in honor of Brittany because we know she loves them. But our idea got even more inspiration from our friend Stephanie….the key ingredient KEFIR.

You all know Lori and I are big fans of our homemade coconut kefir, we have it almost everyday. Well here is our RAW version of these two ladies recipes.

Pure2raw: Raw Overnight Buckwheat Groats

Serves 1

  • 1/3 cup buckwheat groats (soaked overnight, then rinsed in the morning)
  • 1/3 cup coconut kefir
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 lemon zest
  • 1/2 tbsp tbsp maca
  • a few drops of liquid stevia

IMG_4140It was amazing!! Brittany and Stephanie we thank you because we think we found our new weekend morning breakfast!!!

We use to eat soaked buckwheat groats all the time last year. But did take a break from them, boy have we missed them!  Why did we take a break? We were trying to simplify our diets as we heal, so we took most nuts and seeds out of our diet as of late. We have been playing around with different foods, rotating things back in and seeing how we do.

Check out Brittany’s Giveaway…yay for raw foods!!

And we also received a wonderful thoughtful card the other day in the mail

IMG_4153Thank you Katie, this really cheered us up!!! You made our Day!! Love ya girl.

We are in the kitchen working on some cool recipes….cannot wait to share them.

Again have a wonderful Valentine’s Day…we might go see a movie, since Lori’s boyfriend is studying abroad, just us two girls, what is new ; )

Till next time,

Michelle

Sounds like a great breakfast to me! I like the idea of the coconut kefir, maybe if I get brave I’ll try making some myself too :) Hope you girls are having a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Like Averie, I’ve never soaked the groats – I’ve soaked old-fashioned oats. I don’t normally eat ‘em, though. It was good. ;-)

I’ll have to try ‘em, though – yours looks so good in the photos!

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Your overnight oats look delicious :) I am a little intimidated by making your own coconut kefir. Do you think using the store bought kind would taste as good, or should I take the plunge and make some myself?

That looks amazing! I love most over-night things because crunchy things taste good soaked and mushy ;) I love muesli-like things…mmm!

yum! I must try those groats. They look really creamy and good. : )

P.S. What happened to the brown background on the site? Is it just my computer acting up?

Audrey, oh we changed our blog design a few weeks ago. Got rid of the brown and went back to basic white for ease of reading and look. We were not feeling the brown anymore felt it was hard to read.

Oh man, your raw rendition of overnight oats has intrigued me. I’ve never tried kefir before but probably should as I have an interesting digestive system (to say the least).

Thank you for the birthday wishes and the major shout out! You girls are awesome. Can’t wait to meet you both soon.
