Staying true to yourself

by Lori and Michelle on February 1, 2010

Good evening luvs,

We are on a roll with making delicious recipes over here at P2R. Now if you have hemp seeds laying around you really need to make this sauce! It is so light and creamy and a little ‘nutty’! Love it :)

What have the twins been up to for workouts lately?

Well, we have really been focusing on our yoga. And doing this fantastic DVD! Staying active at home is key especially when you are snowed in ;) We also have been doing lots of extra hip opening exercises and head stands. Loving it all!

This month we are really trying to do our workouts with a focus. Each day we are going to dedicate our yoga practice or whatever we do for a workout with an intention. Example: today’s practice for me was to be more confident!

Michelle’s intention was: to not care what others think- do her own thing ( I know that might sound selfish but we all need to start doing it)

For a great read about not letting others get to you check out here!

This article really got both of us thinking. Do we worry too much about what others think? YES!

Why? Not sure!

Both of us are not sure why we are always worrying about what others think of us. We try really hard to do just our own thing but it can be difficult. By having this blog has been a great experience for us both. We have meet so many great people and those people we now consider friends :)

Though by having this blog and reading so many other great blogs it can be very difficult not to compare yourself to others or stay true to who you are!

Does anyone else have this feeling as well?

I thinking having health, fitness, beauty, food blogs are great! I love reading them :) though trying to remind myself of who I am and not judge myself can be a challenge. I do admit most of the time reading other blogs can sometimes make me second guess my own choices and why I do things. But than again sometimes it makes me happy with my choices and makes me what to do better.

So in a way all of you are making me a better person by challenging myself to do my best. :)

Therefore, thanks to all of you for making Michelle and I push ourselves to our limits. Now it is just up to us not to worry about what ‘others’ might think of us no matter what we do. Because we write, eat, exercise, love, etc for ourselves!

Do you feel the same mental challenges with your blog or in your life?

Well put! This is of course regarding not giving in to the “thoughts” of others- or what you think others may be thinking of you… that make sense?
It is hard when reading other blogs to feel like you could be/do better, when in reality, we’re all here for each other. By nature, we (well some of us) want to please others and sometimes that may lead to loosing yourself, your true identity.
So, yes, I feel that way too. It’s nice to be reminded (thank you!!) that we should stay true to ourselves. :)

Lori, you are so right! I agree with you in that we all need to be reminded of staying true to who we are ;) Though keeping in mind that we are all here for each other is right! I am not sure where I would be without all my amazing blogging friends and readers :)

I think it is human nature to compare ourselves to others. However, agreed, we all need to STOP! I think it can be so detrimental and limiting when we do so. For example, I am nervous about going to group fitness classes at times, because I don’t want to have to compare myself to others fitness levels. So silly, I know. It is something that I am also working on. Great discussion point!

I think it’s sooo hard to not compare when reading other blogs. Some ladies have more readers, better recipes, more this, less that…you name it, it’s human nature to look around and then wonder if you “measure up”. I think it’s great to say, you know what this is for me, and screw everybody else :) I wish I could always have that attitude but I am a pleaser and by nature a workaholic and will always work longer, harder, more rather than just saying, ok, I need to step back and take a break. I need to learn how to have moderation with my blog, for sure! Great post :)

Although you have the online store, are you gals still going to be at the FM – weather permitting? I had every intention of coming out this Saturday but you know how that went with our mini blizzard.

Yes Jeannie we still plan to be at the farmers market, although it does depend on the weather, so we are not sure about this Saturday due to more snow in the forecast.

I agree girls, sometimes it’s definitely hard to not “judge” yourself out in the blog world with all the trends, lifestyles, etc. that are out there. One thing I find hard for me is that I know there are alot of vegetarian readers out there and sometimes I have some guilt about posting the many meals we make with meat – but I try to remember that that is our lifestyle choice and everyone chooses to live how they like and also to read what they like – so if they don’t like it then so be it! And see, you fabulous girls don’t judge me for my meat eating tendencies so that is a clear case and point that it probably doesn’t even matter in the end, it’s just my own insecurities :) Have a great night you two!

Thanks guys! This was a really nice post. I also find it hard to stay true to myself when I’m constantly comparing myself to others :S Also, thanks for the yoga inspiration. I really need to start stretching more! :D
I also did not know you guys had a store for some reason- just bought some breads and crackers, YUM!

I hear you ladies. I find myself struggling between eating in a way that makes me feel good, and feeling like I need to watch my cals. Over the past five years, it’s only made me more stressed, more IBSSY. The goal, for all of us, should be feeling good. If anything, I think we can feel comfort in that most of us worry about what others think of us. It’s a common, human condition. So at least we are not alone in our self consciousness! :)

I’m all about those rosemary crackers. Thank you for putting them up for such sensible prices!

I’m so happy you liked the post on my blog. This is what I’m doing it for, you know, helping others. The funny thing is that because of the link to my blog, I discovered yours (what are the odds) and one of my main goals for 2010 is to improve my diet by adding raw food. Right now, I’m experimenting with having a green smoothie every morning and so far it has resulted in a lot of benefits (no downsides). Life can sometimes be as simple as two (or three) people finding each other and helping each other out :-) . Thanks for the great stuff ladies.
