Making great changes

by Lori and Michelle on March 27, 2010

Hello friends,

To go over some of the questions from our cookie tahini bar recipe. Yes you can substitute any nut butter or use more coconut butter instead of tahini. It will just alter the taste and texture from the original recipe. But that is ok! Experiment and have fun!  And do not feel you need to go out and buy nut butters or tahini, you can make them yourself if you have a blender or food processor!

Okay now onto our update on our taking a break plan.

After being a little tired on Wednesday we were a little nervous about how the rest of the week was going to go for us. But have no fear we are doing very well actually. To both of our surprises we had great energy levels for Thursday and Friday. We added in some green smoothies along to our fresh fruit and fresh juices. And of course lots of natural spring water! I feel that has made a BIG difference in how we both have been feeling!!!! Water is an amazing thing especially if it is natural spring water.

Our workout for Thursday was a 25 minute walk outside and about 15 minutes of yoga. And for Friday we did 15 minutes of yoga along with some Tracy Anderson mat workout exercises. Both felt great!!!!! If felt nice again to get moving.

Our eats have been green smoothies

march 2010 p2r blog 819Thursday: Grapefruit, collard greens, stevia  and spring water.

march 2010 p2r blog 846

A huge smoothie on Friday: Grapefruit, swiss chard, stevia, spring water, (made 5 cups each)

And there was juicing

march 2010 p2r blog 823

A juice filled with beets, romaine, carrots, cucumber, beet tops.

Yesterday’s juice was something pretty similar.

Snacks: glass of kombucha and fresh fruit

march 2010 p2r blog 835

A bowl of fresh raspberries. It has been nice eating fresh fruit again! It has been awhile since we have done that because mostly we juice or blend things up.

march 2010 p2r blog 837

And for ‘dessert’ or our snack after our juice for dinner we create another bowl of fresh fruit.

march 2010 p2r blog 840Granny smith apples and grapefruit ( we split grapefruit and each had one apple).

Yesterdays lunch was something a bit special.

march 2010 p2r blog 860Romaine kaboocha squash wraps with black lava sea salt (our favorite)

march 2010 p2r blog 858It hit the spot! Yum! Simple yet surprisingly delicious!

And for our late night meal last night we made another simple grapefruit purple kale smoothie with some stevia and treated ourselves to some sunflower lecithin. We wanted a thick soup like texture for our smoothie.

march 2010 p2r blog 878 And added some lemon juice and  spirulina for extra boost in the soup smoothie! Perfection!

I must admit it has been hard doing this clean eating for certain parts of the day. Overall, I feel great!

My skin is actually clearing up!!!! I feel so light and happy :) I still have a few blemishes but overall MUCH improvement.

Michelle and I plan to continue our very clean eats for a few more days. We both feel great and do not want it to stop. Therefore, we will still be having green smoothies, fresh juices but adding in sauerkraut and wilted salads. We both want more veggies now and a little less fruit.

Hopefully our success with these changes continues for us both!!

Now onto a different note. I hope many of you got to see Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution last night! We did! Overall we thought he did a great job!!! At moments we felt so bad for him because we felt his pain because we have dealt with the same things. I just hope people take his show as inspiration to start making changes in their own life. By Michelle and I eating this very clean diet is not the easiest thing but seeing the BENEFITS and FEELING GREAT it is hard not to BELIEVE that what you eat really does effect your BODY! We could talk about weight, obesity, food pyramid, school lunches, and health of our nation for hours but we will stop with just saying this – WE HONESTLY CARE FOR OTHER PEOPLE’S HEALTH THAT IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO! We hope that others start caring about themselves and family to make more positive changes ;) You are have to make one change at a time and the rest will fall into place!!!!

Ok, we off to go bake more cupcakes for an another order for today. It has been cupcake madness over here.

News.

For one of our great and simple recipes please check out our guest post at our dear friend Lori’s blog!

Till next time,

Lori

Hey girlies! I LOVE your blog, and your amazing recipes. I’m also trying to better understand my body, and incorporating a lot more raw and vegan food. So far, I feel great!

Jamie Oliver is adorable. I want to hug him.

I also really agree with wanting to help people. It makes me SO sad to see people chowing down on endless plates of fast food and processed junk. I’m not a total hardliner, in that I don’t think an occasional Wendy’s Frosty or order of fries will kill you (as long as you usually eat healthy), but when people eat this stuff all the time…yikes, no WONDER so many people are sick and obese.

With a super clean diet like that, it’s no surprise you’re feeling great!! You two are a great motivation to eat more veggies :) I didn’t catch Jamie Oliver’s show, but I can’t wait to see it!!

LOVE all the colorful eats and drinks. YUM! :-D

And, yes, I’m LOVING Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution. I’ve blogged about it, have been tweeting about it, and signed the petition. I am so excited to continue watching his progress and just know that he’ll be able to make a real difference!!

Hugs,
Michele

Aw man, I missed the show! I’ll have to check and see when it’s on again.

I’m so glad to hear that everything’s going well with the clean eats and things are improving. I totally agree with wanting to help people and caring about their health. I feel the same way! I try to help my friends clean up their diets without being preachy or anything; I find that leading by example really works. Then people get interested and ask you questions…

We watched Jamie Oliver as well, such a great show but also so difficult to watch! It even got The Man riled up which makes it a definite good show (is he coming to the healthy “dark side”??) Have a lovely Monday girls!

I planned on watching Jamie Oliver’s show, but for some reason Operation Smile ran in its place in my viewing area. I was so disappointed. Hopefully, I can view it online.

BTW, I thought you might be interested in today’s post on my blog. I actually got to interview Brendan Brazier.

I am WAY behind on my blog reading but thanks for the shout out. I’m so glad to hear you have had positive results with the (even) clean(er) eating! I’m going to be juicing, blending, and refreshing my meals more too. I’m definitely taking some of those smoothie and juice ideas!
