Hello friends,
Happy Monday to you all!!!
We hope everyone had a fantastic weekend.
We started our Saturday morning with fresh fruit before our farmers market. Michelle and I keep going back and forth on what to have to eat before the market. We sell at two different markets on Saturdays and away from home for over 7 hours. Therefore eating something at 4am in the morning is tough because we really do not feel like eating that early in the morning, though we have to eat something because we do not eat till at least 8 hours later! Tough decisions! In addition we do have access to run to the bathroom so we can not drink any water!!!
Anyways we ate a big bowl of grapefruit and granny smith apples which was fine though our tummies did hurt at the market (we think it was too much fiber for that early in the morning).
We are evaluating what would be best for a good breakfast before our markets. Any suggestions?!?! What would you consider is a great breakfast?
When we got back home we just snacked on some things and had a green smoothie from a local juice bar that recently opened up! It was delicious.
It is a local juice and smoothie bar that opened up a few months ago. It is right up the street from where we sell at on Saturdays in Carrboro!
The owner is awesome and so sweet! If you are in the local area you should go check it out!We might even doing some raw cooking demos and events with her!
We got a spinach, cucumber, mint, kale, apple, ginger, cinnamon smoothie.
We did not end up working out on Saturday- we are so tired and worn out that we barley have energy to do anything. We did manage to get more things ready for online orders! Than we took the rest of Saturday off from work. We needed some down time!!!
For dinner we put together a delicious green salad all made from local greens from our great farmers. We are so fortunate to have such great farmers in our local area that provide amazing produce.
Look at all the beautiful greens.
A spinach and Russian red kale salad with our homemade sauerkraut and lemon juice. AMAZING!
Sunday was our normal day of getting things ready for our week ahead. I leave soon for Paris!!!!! It is hard to believe that my trip overseas has come already! I do plan on talking about my experience overseas. So expect some interesting posts while I am there! I am a little nervous about what I am going to be eating! Not sure if I will be able to really eat what I eat here while I am over there. Yikes!
Other news:
We made some changes to our online store here on our blog. We just kept our t-shirts and some of our raw foods. If you want more of our product offering please remember to visit our online bakery – twin cakes bakery. We will be adding more products on twin cakes bakery site soon. Currently we have our raw foods, dry mixes for our Twin Cakes goodies as well as some yummy raw desserts! Great healthy grab and go snacks!
Till next time,
Lori

Anything with banana in it for me is a good breakfast. I was always trained in bodybuilding to have your sugar early in the morning and the banana was a great energy boost.
Wow, I’m looking forward to hearing about Paris! I find that I can’t really stomach anything other than fruit or veggies early in the morning. Maybe try some low fiber fruits or make a green smoothie the night before.
Wow, I never thought of having raw mixes; that is a GREAT idea! You two are so creative.
I love a banana with nut butter as an early morning breakfast. It’s easy to prepare, and easy to digest!! As far as Paris goes, I’d say enjoy yourself. Obviously you don’t need to enjoy steak tartare, but France is known for its incredible food and you can find great salads in all the cafes. Be sure to try some real baguettes, too
Raw Oats! They are so easy to put together the night before. Add whatever you’d like; coconut, raisins, dates, spices, raw nut or seed butter (or just whole nuts and/or seeds), fruit, water, and your choice of none dairy milk. It’s great! Add a piece of fruit if you don’t add any to your oats and a glass of coconut water. Delicious!
hey ladies! What a busy weekend you had. I hope you had a great time at the market and sold a lot of goodies!I’m so jeleous you have a farmers market open. I’m in Canada so we haven’t even planted anything outside yet as its still too cold…lol! A trip to paris sounds wonderful. I’m sure you are on it but maybe check out where the local health food stores or juice bars are:) A great breakfast? Well, I think that would be a either a raw protein cookie or bar and then of course a power-packed smoothie is always easy. Congrats on the dry mixes..that’s awesome!
hey girls! a good breakfast is DEF something that has a lot of carbs, and some fat +protein! it has to keep you full for atleast 3 hrs! oh and DEF coffee
Maybe some soaked oats and a mashed banana for breakfast? What a super busy and productive weekend you had, that’s great! I’m looking forward to hearing all about Paris!
I’ve been eating grapefruit every morning before I workout, but I have a huge green smoothie after that. I can’t go 8 hours on just grapefruit. Maybe you just need to make the big ol’ smoothie and take it along for the ride.
That juice and smoothie bar looks cute. I’d love to have one near me.
Have fun in Paris. My aunt is there right now. She’ll be home soon, though.
Shannon, that is awesome that your aunt is there, too bad we will miss eachother
Yes we have been eating grapefruit all the time lately!!!
Breaky?! Ive been downing grapefruit juice lately, and coconut water – smoothie if Im wanting something heavier.
Paris?! OMG, such a great place – have a blast!!!! I look forward to hearing about your adventures.
The dry mix idea is brilliant! I’ll have to check out your selection!
As for breakfast, that’s tough– nothing will last with me for 7 hours! But, I would try a green smoothie if it were me. They always keep me full and satisfied for a while!
you’re going to paris, there will be tons to eat, hopefully something that you want and can eat!
thank you!
as for the figure comp’s commnent you left me and that my body is already there…too sweet
carrboro. I used to live in NC as you know and have plenty of road trippin memories thru carrboro, usually on a way to a 5 or 10k in some podunk town
If I were going to be standing on my feet for hours, you can bet I’d be eating something really filling and full of soluble fiber, like oats or oat bran with coconut butter for fat! Avocado or coconut pudding on sprouted bread would be another pick (gluten free bread for you?), though I really find that oats offer most satiety. If you were set on a raw brekkie, you could do soaked oat groats or oatgurt? Smoothies are an option, too, though I have to admit that I never feel satisfied from them. They’re a snack in Gena-world
Hey girls! Wanted to stop in and say hello and let you know that the online store looks great! I hope you are having a good week and getting some nice sunny weather soon
Are you able to bring snacks for when you’re there? I like to eat a banana with some raw almond butter & cinnamon for dipping before my long runs (read: 15-20 miles), so that might work for you guys havign to stand for so many hours! I also like bringing dates as “fuel on the go”.
Hey Ladies,
Kudos to you for doing the farmer’s market! I’ve done that kind of thing when I lived in California and remember the long hours on my feet! That’s rough not getting a bathroom break, though – is there truly nowhere you could go?
4am is way early for eating! I’d have found apple and grapefruit harsh on my belly too. I think I’d agree with the suggestion of taking along a smoothie and drinking it on the road. Or a chia pudding. I could also imagine drinking some spirulina or chlorella in some water, tea, coconut water or whatever, before you left – but working a farmer’s market is hard work in many different facets, and you definitely need good fuel!
Good luck on your Paris trip and kudos on your blog again!
love
Ela
Thanks Ela, there is a place for us to go to the bathroom though we rarely have time to leave our table, so that is the hard part. Thanks for all your great suggestions
For breakfast? I say soaked grains. I don’t know how you ladies make it eight hours just on fruit! I’d die. I have almost died… eating raw bread for breakfast made me almost pass out while teaching a couple times.
You could also make Averie’s raw banana granola bars… minus the peanut butter, of course.
Can’t wait to hear about the Paris travels!!!
