Update plus St Patty Sale

Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 03:39 PM

Hello everyone

We wanted to give you an update on the kraut we made with you all last week.

Check out this quick video:

Raw sauerkraut is easy to, just make sure to keep the liquid above the kraut. When done just transfer kraut to smaller containers and enjoy at your leisurely. Store in fridge.

Update on how we are doing:

Lori had another breakout last week, got a little depressed again, but things are turning up again. We are starting to keep a food journal, finally! We have been doing it for a week, so we will keep you updated on that as once we start to see patterns.  Mainly we have been keeping track of our fat and fiber and our water intake. Also when we eat things and when we workout. You may be thinking, I did not think raw foodist cared about calories and stuff. Well this is true but for us to really understand what is going on with each of our own bodies, we want to see what works and what does not. Food journal is the best way to find results for us.

Although our schedule varies everyday so it is hard to keep a routine, but we are trying to find our routine that works for us.  Hormones seem to be better for both of us, as least emotional wise, but Lori still has not gotten her period. Michelle will know if she gets her period again next week, so we will let you all know.

Hope everyone is doing good with your hormones and such.

We have to remind ourselves everyday that this is a journey and our body takes time to heal. Stay positive!  ; )

But to end on a positive note as we mentioned yesterday we are running a St. Patty’s Day special starting today till Wednesday, so get your orders in!! Our online store has been updated with our specials (our green line is on sale plus some new items for a limited time) and new t-shirts are available, $5 off!!!! The shirts are very high quality, custom designed, some our organic cotton and some our made out of bamboo!!! One of a kind ; ) And you do not have to a raw foodie or vegan to wear these shirts. The shirts are made for anyone looking for a high quality shirts that do good for the planet!! Also the shirts can be translated into your own personal meaning, for instance the Raw t-shirt could mean you enjoy things in the raw, pure state, no bulls**t, so to speak. It does not necessarily only  mean raw foods, but it can if that is what you want it to mean. So have fun shopping!!!

Note: the shirts are women sizes again, run a little big.

We have had a busy day…farmers market then had a meeting all afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday everyone!!

And good luck to our sister tomorrow in her race!! She is running in the Disney Princess Half Marathon. She begged us to do it, but we just could not leave work! ; (

Also good luck to MizFit and the lovely Fitnessista, and to VeganLisa. Ladies you will all rock it!!!

Till next time,

The Twins

I too keep track of what I eat. If I don’t I tend to start eating way too much fat and dried fruits… I love nuts and the sweetness of the dried fruit, but they are VERY calorie dense and I could eat LOTS of it. So, I know what you mean.

Also… I got my kombucha starter in the mail today, so excited to start making my own, thanks for the video and I plan to track my progress on my blog. I am still waiting for my kefir grains and am excited to try the coconut kefir! Thanks again!

Food journaling is a great tool to help with detective work when you’re “so close!” to finding the missing piece to the health puzzle…it can be so helpful to look back on the past few days or weeks eats and realize, oh yeah, that may be it..
Anyway have a great weekend/Sunday, girls!

i’ve been raw for two years and haven’t gotten my period for over a year now. i also get random breakouts. i thought it was my low fat intake, since i really don’t eat nuts or seeds (other than chia, hemp, sesame, but that didn’t seem to make a difference when i added more fats back in. i am pretty active and it seems like that might be a contributing factor. i really stressed about it for a while, but now i’ve kind of accepted the fact that i don’t get it. i’ve done a lot of reading and it seems like as long as you are ovulating, the physical period isn’t necessary. i feel good other than bouts with my fickle GI. i still worry about what this means for me when i try and have a baby, but i guess we are so programed by society and the medical community to believe that we need to have a period to produce a baby or be healthy that anything else just seems WEIRD. good luck with whatever you figure out!

I think journaling is a great idea for trying to figure out what foods work for you and which ones don’t. I was on journal overload and had to take a break, but I’ll have to start up again soon so I can pinpoint which foods seem to be an issue for me.

I admire you guys for keeping a food journal. I could never stick with it, myself. I tell myself that my twitter is my food journal!!!

The t-shirts are so so so cute. I really want the plant one and the race to the castle one … but I’m torn between the shirts and the flatbreads!!! Can’t afford both… well… not until I score a job for the summer, anyway! :)

I once had a food journal. Loved it, it was a powerful tool. I was prompted to start one when I started developing some pretty annoying stomach problems. It seemed that whatever I ate went right though me, at least once or twice a day. The journal really helped me pin down the problem, which turned out to be caffeine. In hindsight I should have known, but really without the journal I doubt I would have figured it out. I’ve seriously reduced my caffeine since that time and have not experienced the tummy problems since.
As for periods. I’m only partially raw, but have not noticed a difference from the time when I was eating all my meals cooked. The big difference for me was when I went vegan and gave up dairy about 6 or 7 years ago, I have not had a regular period since. I went from having one every month to maybe having one every two or three. I’m following your hormone posts very closely to see if there’s anything that I might use for myself. Thanks for blogging this and being as honest as you are!

Nancy thank you so much for this lovely comment :) Yes food journal can be very helpful. That is so interesting about your periods from eating mostly cooked foods and taking out dairy, etc. I hope our information can help you in some way. We are all here for each other for support and knowledge. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Take care :)

I think the food journal is a great idea! I used to keep one, and it got away from me after a while… When I did do it, though, I was really able to track how certain foods affected me! I especially noticed that nut fat affected me differently than fat from avocados.

    Good luck ladies! :D

Thank you for the note of support!
I had a great race. I am still in Florida but as soon as I get home I want to place an order and test out all of your amazing products.

P.S. I want more cookbook details. I just saw in your most recent post a reference…I had no idea you were working on a cookbook. I am really excited by this announcement. I look forward to following along in your writing process.

    xoxo
