First day in Paris, France

by Lori and Michelle on April 4, 2010

Hello everyone from Paris!!!!

Well I made it to Paris and Gary came to the airport to pick me up. My eats have been a little strange but interesting ;) On the plane I just ate some raw lemon cookies and our pure2raw crackers and flat breads.

My first day in Paris was a day full of sight seeing and walking around. It was rainy and cold here today in Paris but besides the weather it was a great day.

I got into Paris around 7:30am local time and been on the go ever since (till now where we are relaxing in the apartment and drinking some wine).

Quick overview of my day:

First on the agenda was going to the local farmers market which was about a 15 minute walk from Gary’s apartment.

IMG_3897Just look at the fresh produce :) A little piece of heaven for me!!!

This market went on and on, so many great produce to look and buy. I ended up buying some fresh mint, parsley, cilantro and grapefruit for smoothies for the next few mornings.

IMG_3902And they had a few wine vendors :)

IMG_3911

Here is me enjoying the market, I was in love!!

IMG_3912

They even sold grains and fresh spices

IMG_3914

After browsing the market we headed back to apartment to make some lunch before we headed back out. And to put more layers on.. it is cold here in Paris and it rained on and off throughout the whole day :( But that is ok we managed to still do lots of things!

Lunch for me was a simple fresh herbs (the ones I got from local market) and grapefruit. I have the TriBest personal blender for me to use during my trip. So far it is working just fine, though it is not my Vita-Mix ( I miss it already). And I enjoyed a few slices of our pure2raw cheez crackers.  (sorry no picture we were in a hurry).

Next we just walked around and I was getting tired so we stopped by a local cafe and got some espresso :)

IMG_3916

Isn’t the cup so cute!!!

IMG_3917Now it was time to walk around some more… we stopped by the Louvre

IMG_3923

IMG_3924Here is me being silly

Gary and I leaving the Louvre area to walk around some more

IMG_3941Next we headed up to the Montmatre area

IMG_3945I just loved all the little streets and all the cafes along side the streets.

Next it was time for dinner! We went back to apartment to freshen up. Really I needed to do some research on what restaurant I wanted to try for dinner ;)

I went to the best site for vegetarian and vegan restaurants to get some local ideas. And came across this cute little vegetarian restaurant

Le Potager du Marais – cafe restaurant bio vegetarian

IMG_3971

I loved how cute and small it was and the staff were so nice!!!!

IMG_3973

IMG_3970

If you are ever in the Paris area I highly recommend this place. The food was outstanding. Gary even loved his vegetarian dish!!!

Now onto the eats:

First up we both got soups for our appetizers, I felt like something warm and comforting

IMG_3958Gary got the french onion soup and loved it!

IMG_3959

I got the soup of the day- Carrot soup. And it was heavenly!!!!! I had every last spoonful of it ;)

For our meal dishes I got something that was gluten free and vegetarian

IMG_3962

It was there eggplant surprise with a side of quinoa. The eggplant was rolled with tomatoes, basil and goat cheese.

IMG_3963

OMG this was soooooo gooood.

IMG_3964

Gary had some as well and gave it 2 thumbs up!

Gary got the quinoa burger with a mushroom sauce and veggies

IMG_3961

He really enjoyed his dinner!!!!  :) I took some bites of his dinner and oh my was it ever to tasty.

IMG_3965

The quinoa burger was awesome and loved the pureed up veggies. YUM!!! Gary loved how this was not served on a bun like most traditional burgers are. Both meals were quite generous on the portion sizes. We both left with very full and happy tummies!

Next was dessert

IMG_3966

We got their chocolate cream- it was vegan and gluten free as well :)

IMG_3969Chocolate cream was so thick and creamy. Not too sweet either! Though I feel it was based out of tofu, which I try not to eat because my tummy does not like tofu. But hopefully these few bits won’t hurt me too much ;) I really do not want to have tummy issues while being here! Overall it was a great dinner and day in Paris!!!! Expect more great findings coming later this week.

Till next time from Paris!

oh la la…it looks like you had a wonderful first day in Paris. Europeans really know how to do farmers markets. I love seeing the diversity of produce (and wine) available. Are you planning to check out any other restaurants? I’ve heard that Pousse-Pousse has a large raw food selection. I hope you have an amazing trip – thanks for giving us a peak into the adventure.

I think I ate there when I was in Paris. Paris is not exactly the easiest place to be gluten-free. I ended up going to the biocoop a lot. however back then i ate soy and ate a lot of soy yogurt. it was in almost every market.

Yes Elizabeth I agree, about how the Europeans tend to live a healthy lifestyle, I love how they really enjoy life. They enjoy every meal, from shopping for the ingredients at the local markets to preparing the meal at home.

Wow what a beautiful market! Looks like you are having a great time! I’ve heard some parts of Europe are hard to find veggie eats but that dinner you had looked amazing. Great find and I’ll have to write it down for when I get out to Europe one of these days! Enjoy the rest of your trip!
