Hello friends,
Well Monte Carlo was some place! I really enjoyed my time there. Nice, France was another place I really enjoyed and would love to go back to one day. We left Nice to head to Avignon, France. We took a 3 hour train ride over to Avignon. Train was not too bad. Though we had to get up at 5am to make it to the 6:30am train ride, luckily I am a morning person
And than we arrived in Avignon! We checked into our hotel and than we were off to explore. We are only here for a day so had to get all the sight seeing in.
Gary the official tour guide.
Before heading off on our train ride I made another smoothie in the hotel room. And snacked on an apple on the train. By the time we got to Avignon both of us were ready for some lunch. Though the hotel check in person told us about a market they have so I wanted to go check it out.
Filled with so many different vendors from produce to cheese to meat and much more
Market was fun for me. I love seeing how other places handle food and such.
Gary and I got a few things for a mid morning snack to hold us off till lunch.
My snack was raspberries and granny smith apple.
After our little snack it was back to sight seeing.
Avignon has a stone wall surrounding it. Pretty amazing!
Gorgeous view from on top of the hill!
After walking around of an hour or so we both started to get hungry and decided time to get some food for lunch. We walked around looking at all the different restaurants and cafes to eat at but nothing really sounded to good to me. So we kept walking till we found this little ‘to go’ natural cafe with smoothies.
Zeste is the name. They had some smoothies and than a whole area where there was already pre-made foods.
Shredded carrots in orange juice.
Quinoa with a roasted tomato sauce and peppers, onions, raisins.
Gary got a sandwich from a local bakery. He said it was really good.
Pretty good lunch for me. Everything was tasty. Though not too filling. We headed back to hotel for me to blog and get some snacks.
I drank this drink that I got from the Zeste store at lunch. It is called Detox made with lemon, lime and ginger it was good. I also grabbed some of our pure2raw herb crackers! My favorite!
Gary snacked on this as well treat that he got at the bakery.
He said it was a croissant texture but with sugar on top. He liked it! He said it was different though in a good way
After our little snack break we headed back out to check out the palace here in Avignon.
After touring the palace it was time to find something to eat for dinner. We decided on going to a restaurant in the main plaza in Avignon.
We sat outside though it was extremely windy! This restaurant had a vegetarian dinner option.
We ordered our half bottle of wine
First up of my dinner was a plate of mixed vegetables.
It was more like a salad than a plate of vegetables. Not that great. The vegetables did not seem that fresh.
Gary got the mushroom cheese pizza
He said is was really good. I mean though what pizza is not?!?!
Then my main course was their vegetarian paella.
This was AMAZING!!!! I have never really had paella before and this was delicious, definitely made up for my vegetable plate.
Than it was time for dessert.
It was some type of creme flan. Gary was not a fan of it.
Back at the hotel it was time for my dessert!
Another great buy from the health food store in Cannes. Chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I enjoyed a few bites of this delicious and smooth chocolate bar. I love some good chocolate!
The next morning we had to a long bus ride ahead of us. We left Avignon, France to head to Barcelona, Spain! We had to take a 7 HOUR bus ride down there! I made sure I had some food for the long ride
Me before getting on the bus! Don’t I just look so happy!
I brought a lot of fruit to snack on the bus as well as a few other surprises
I ate 3 granny smith apples and some bites of a banana. Apples are great road trip snacks in my opinion
Next was some socca that I bought our last day in Nice, France and saved it just for this trip! I like to plan ahead.
Not as good when it is a few days old, but that is ok it still hit the spot for me.
Another snack that I had on the bus was another great purchase from the health food store in Cannes.
A fig bar. I love figs so this was a nice treat!
100% Dried Figs! Now that is a great ingredient list
Tasted just like a Fig Newton bar.
Next we finally made it to Spain’s border.
They checked everyone’s passports and than we were off to Barcelona. We had about 2 more hours on the bus from here. Luckily the bus ride was not as bad as I was thinking it was going to be. There were lots of different people on the bus and we only had one major problem with someone wanting to play loud music. But besides that no problems. And the bus driver did end up stopping at a rest area for 30 minutes, so that was a nice break! And boy were those rest stop bathrooms an unique experience for me. I will just leave it at that!
After arriving at the bus station in Barcelona we headed towards our hotel. We got lost a few times. Their streets here are sometimes difficult to follow because they change names quite a bit. But eventually we made it!
And this is what we were greeted with
It was good though a little too sweet for me. I snacked on some sauerkraut (another purchase from health food store) while we unloaded everything and tried to figure out what we wanted to do for the evening.
We decided to go to the main park here in Barcelona and walked around till we found something for dinner. I will talk about our fantastic dinner later. But I will leave you with some pictures of Barcelona, Spain.
They have palm trees everywhere too! Just like my home in Florida
Till next time,

Ah, looks like some more amazing time in Europe. I’m so jealous!! And I definitely admire how healthy you’ve been eating while on vacation
Another great recap!! Even though traveling can be a hassle, isn’t it great to be able to take buses to different countries instead of a plane?! I’m loving all your wine

Hi Lauren,
I ran into your blog while googling about a bus from Avignon to Barcelona. Did you guys end up taking the midnight bus? Where can you buy the tickets and is it safe to ride on the bus?
Thanks in advance,
