Hey everyone!
Remember when we got some books in the mail?
Lori and I finally finished the The Yoga Body Diet.
Our thoughts?
The book was really easy to read and I liked the feel of the pages, I know weird. But I like when a book feels nice in my hands. The book focuses on the philosophy around Ayurveda. Ayurveda’s preventive mission is to purify the mind, body, and soul. The main goal is healing digestive problems. How appropriate considering most Americans (including us) have some ill complaint about their stomachs.
The book takes you through a 4 week program. Each week you do something different, so change is gradual. I believe this is the best way to change…start small and add on each week.
According to Ayurveda, everyone is born with three doshas with one being more dominant. Doshas is your essences…think of it as your personality. Finding you dosha will help you find balance! There is a quiz in the book to help you determine which dosha is your dominant and guides you to find balance.
It is more than just what you eat kind of diet book, but also what yoga poses will help. Yoga is a big part of the diet and lifestyle. I feel everyone can benefit from a little yoga everyday? Right?
I would recommend this book if you are interested in learning more about balancing your dosha through diet and yoga! No one diet is a one size fits all! We all suffer from different ailments, so we each require a different fitness regime and food plan to achieve balance.
The book also has great detailed pictures of yoga poses and recipes! For more information check out the site.
What we think?
We think there is some truth behind this because we are ALL different and require different things to balance us. Finding your dosha will help you approach your healing differently because you learn how to respect your body. It is a great way to approach diet, because it is not about restriction but more of how and what you eat. How you approach your next meal…your mental and emotional factors are taken into consideration.
So here is what we plan to do:
We will try to be more aware of how we feel before we eat.
We will try to approach yoga as more of a tool to help calm and heal us.
We will not fight our weakness but look for ways to grow stronger.
We will love ourselves no matter what.
We will nourish our process of healing.
What will you do today in terms of approaching food? diet? yoga?
Will you be kind to yourself? Will you be open-minded?
Other things to do today…Giveaways
V-pure Omega 3 EPA and DHA from Bitt of Raw
TIll next time,

Yayyy thanks do much for this review!!! I’ve been dying to read this and have always taken an interest in ayurveda. Hoping to be able to get my hands on a copy soon. It’s been sold out at my local barnes and noble. Live you girls!!
Today I will be kind to myself and trust that I am making the food decisions based on how my body feels. Already I have been accepting meats back into my diet and seeing how my body adjusts to them. There are good days and bad with digestion but I’m trying to find a balance of what will work.

Great questions and great review!
Thanks Lori! Good luck with your new diet. I know you will figure it out!
Great post and great questions! You ladies have such a good vibe going on here at the moment.
I love the concept of Ayurveda. It is so loose and yet precise: it gives guidelines whilst leaving each individual responsible for their own health.
I am thinking that one of the things that I need to do to take care of myself is rest more. When summertime hits in Alaska, everything gets frantic. It’s my third summer here and i’m still not used to it! The other thing I probably need to do is quit cacao cold turkey! I love my cacao, but bearing in mind that I can’t do any tea or coffee at all because of adrenal exhaustion, I’ve been tending to eat more cacao every day recently, trying to keep up with everything I have to do when my energy isn’t good. When I do that, I start to get symptoms from it and also start to feel addicted. So probably time for some tough love!
love
Ela
Sounds like an awesome book to read! I’ve been interested in learning about Ayurveda, so thanks for the review!
I’ve been trying to be kind to my body lately by keeping my food super-healthy, but I think my body kinda hates me for making it do Insanity!! Ha ha.
Megan, haha. Yay, our body is not sure what we are doing to it with the Insanity program. But loving the workouts and seeing how far I can push my body. Good luck with yours
I used to be so into yoga and still try to implement aspects of it into my life despite that I can’t do most of the moves right now.
Thank you for the link up!
congrats to your sis and her hubs! YAY!!!!
“We will not fight our weakness but look for ways to grow stronger.”–I LOVE THAT! I totally believe in ayurveda and am very vata dominant. Air. Light. I need to embrace that and have, but that means that I will not ever be a big hugely muscular person no matter what. I need to respect my body and what it is and eat and train and live accordingly and not try to be someone’s body/needs/dietary path who Im not.
I love this post!
First of all, not weird at all about feeling the book. I love how books feel, and I especially like how SOME feel more than others.
Definitely an interesting review, I might have to check this book out since I *just* really got into yoga. In fact, I’m spending most of this morning researching studios around and hopefully I’ll get a chance to check a few out very soon!
Have a great day ladies!
This sounds like a really interesting book! The dosha thing especially is intriguing. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it at the bookstore, thanks for the review!
Great review. I’ve read a bit about the yoga diet and it does interest me. Tempted to buy it; anything to help the old IBS
