Hello friends,
Today we have a short video of Lori making a green smoothie. We have at least one green smoothie everyday with some sort of green and fruit. We love all types of dark leafy greens in our green smoothies. We aim to get a different one almost everyday we believe in variety because each dark leafy green provides different nutritional value
We challenge you to step outside your comfort zone and use different greens! Promise after you make some for awhile your taste buds will learn to love them like we do! It took us a few times to make really good green smoothies with kale, collards, swiss chard, bok choy, etc. but kept up with it and now we crave them!
Today’s green smoothie: Grape and Fig Kale Green Smoothie (made with local grapes and figs)
Pure2Raw Recipe: Grape Fig Kale Smoothie
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water (you may use any liquid of your choice like any nut milks)
- A few stalks of green kale ( I did about 4-5 kale leaves)
- 1 juice of lemon
- 1 packet stevia
- 1 pint of green grapes
- 1 pint of frozen figs
Additions I added: these are optional but they provide great flavor to smoothie
- 2 tbsp hemp seeds
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp cardamom
- 1 tsp vanilla bean powder
- and glass straw for drinking
Pour 2 cups of water in blender along with kale. Blend till combined.
Next add remaining ingredients and blend till WELL blended and smooth. I usually blend for a good 1-2 minutes
Enjoy!
Remember when making green smoothies add any flavorings you like to help make the smoothie taste great. Example, if you do not like cinnamon than do not add it, instead use another spice like nutmeg. I usually do water in my smoothies but feel free to use any liquid of your choice. Remember you do not always have to add fruit like we did the other day, using protein powders can help with providing great texture and flavor. Play around and have fun.
Now go make a creamy green smoothie for your morning to give you all the fuel and nutrition to get through your day. Green smoothies are great for quick, easy to digest, nutritious meal.
This week Lori and I have been running around like crazy… have some big projects we are working on for our company! Hopefully we can share more with you soon!
Till next time, we have a great recipe to share with you all tomorrow for Recipe Friday! Can’t believe it is Friday already!
Till next time,
Michelle

Great video!
The smoothie sounds great! I have never done a green smoothie, but mostly because I don’t have a vita mix. Maybe one day…a girl can dream! Have a great afternoon!
Yay for green smoothie love!! LOL, you crack me up with all that blending!! He he! Enjoy!!!
Haha yes Lauren, I do like to blend my smoothies well, LOL
Yum…this looks delicious
Love the combination of grapes and figs! Love the video, too
Thanks Evergreen, I was surprised how much I liked the grapes and figs together
I am usually not a grape person, but they were nice!
I have tried and tried and tried to like kale in my smoothies. I drink them, but I don’t really enjoy them as much as spinach. I’m a green smoothie sissy, I guess.
Oh Katie, sorry that kale does do well for you in smoothies
I am glad to see you at least trying, that is awesome!! xoxo
I love experimenting with different greens – kale, collards, swiss chard, spinach, turnip, mustard, dandelion, lambsquarters, etc. Dark leafies are loaded with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, phytochemicals, antioxidants + chlorophyll. If you follow a ratio of 60% fruit mixed with 40% green leafy vegetables, you can’t go wrong.
It’s very important to rotate your greens as they also contain alkaloids that can be slightly toxic if you eat the same greens every day. But with so many different varieties, it shouldn’t be hard to mix it up a bit. Variety is the spice of life, as they say!
Earth Mother – yes variety is the spice of life ; )
I’ve never tried grape in smoothies before – sounds awesome!
I love this video and you’ve definitely inspired me to get those green smoothies going. Question, do you find they’re ok on your digestive system? In the past when I’ve made them they haven’t gone down to well (don’t want to go into TMI in your comments section!). I’m thinking it may be because I always add bananas which could be too hard on my system but I’m not sure.
Love you guys xxx
Sarah – green smoothies are one of the things that our bodies love. We rarely ever get any digestive problems from drinking them. Maybe start small, have one cup a day.
you are so adventurous with the figs in there and grapes too. i need to bust out of my smoothie rut a bit.
LOVE green smoothies and so do the kids. Thanks for sharing your wonderful version!!
Peace and Raw Health,
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, thank you for your sweet comment.
Loved the video – i’m a new vitamix owner and its really helpful just to see how you use it! And hadnt thought to freeze my figs first – going to try this weekend. thanks again!
Hi!
I have a question about the digestion about the greens + fruits smoothies. I am trying to follow the food combining method because it seems to help me with digestion, and with that it is recommended that fruits be eaten alone. However – I would like to try these smoothies. Do think that because it is blended it will be have a different effect on the body? What is your opinion? Thanks!
Sophie when making green smoothies have a dark leafy green mixed with a fruit is fine. It should be fine for the food combining. Dark leafy greens are different and can be eaten with fruit compared to other veggies and grains. I hope this helps.
I just started getting into green smoothies seriously. Im not vegan but am lowering my meat intake for better digestion.(I need to lose over 130 pounds so I am doing alot of healthy lifestyle changes). The first time I did this I didnt sweeten my smoothie, I could drink it but not much. This morning I finally did it in a way I liked(I added yogurt). But i really love your way. i wish I had stevia or agave nectar at home now so I can try sweetening it that way!(Ive never tried stevia but almost always have agave nectar at home). Ill try it tomorrow morning with almond milk and hemp seeds like you did. Im starting to really enjoy my smoothies
Camille, good luck with your weight loss journey!!! We know you can do it, and smoothies will be a great thing to have in your diet. Yes try sweetening them a little, and you will love them even more
Hey guys.I tried one today with almond milk, vanilla yogurt instead of water, and hemp hearts and flax seeds and lemon juice, fresh bananas and strawberries and frozen mango strawberries and peaches. It was delicious. I devided it up as it was too much for one sitting. Filled 3 mason jars. drank one fresh in the morning and brought the other two to work(Sadly no blender at work) and my husband drank the third one. It really helped me get my fat and calories(And even a bit of protein) in a healthy way. And surprisingly It really helps fill me up if I drink it with my whole fruit snacks. I tend to get sugar crashes during the day and feel weak and tired. Fruit help regulate it(Im not diabetic or hypoglycemic) I find that the shake helped with keeping me more stable throughout the day. I think I found my favorite way to start my morning XD. It wakes me up too as I don’t drink coffee and it takes alot to share that foggy head feeling you get in the morning. A good shake and exercise helps! Ive been gradually changing my diet in the last year but have been even more so in the last few months. Ive lost 37 pounds so far at a healthy slow pace(I started at 365 and am down to 327 and steadily dropping). And I love the way fresh fruit and veggies make you feel. We don’t eat anything pre-packaged in this house or processed. I’m lucky my husband eats what I eat and supports me. And He loves these smoothies too!
Camille, thank you thank you so much for this comment!!! This made our night!!! We are so thrilled and happy for you about loving green smoothies and losing those pounds that is awesome!! If you ever need help, or have any questions, or just want someone to talk to just email or comment! We love hearing from you and hope to stay in touch with your progress!!! wishing you all the best Camille! thanks again hugs
