Chia love

by Lori and Michelle on March 2, 2011

One of our meals today was a great recipe inspired from our friend Gena.

I remember a few weeks ago she posted about a chia seed power pudding and knew I had to make it!! I love chia seeds so this pudding hit the spot! YUM

We followed Gena’s recipe exactly except instead of dates we used stevia.

We forgot how great chia seed puddings can be so now after having this pudding we look forward to having them on our new no sugar meal plan!

Perfect addition to our new diet changes! Yes I am going to follow along with Michelle on her sugar-free plan to better health! Who is joining with us? ;)

Check out the wonderful HEAB’s post about how she eats a low sugar diet! Plus Katie is also doing a little sugar free challenge the first week of every month, check it out we think it is a great idea!

And yes we do enjoy Ricki’s blog, a great resource for candida sufferers. :) It is really great to see so many people trying to reduce their sugar intake we have seen it going around with many of our blog friends! Great to have the support to keep each other going!

Till next time,

Lori

Alex, Michelle and/or Lori, what do you use to substitute for dates? I want to make energy bars, and the dates are used as a binder/sweetener. I am also concerned about candida and avoiding sugar. Thanks!

looks great guys! :) love chai, and anything with cinnamon too. Ya it’s funny how “connected” us bloggers can be, I’ve been doing the sugar-free thing for a few weeks now and love it. I’m on a quest for better focus and clarity and this sugar free kick has helped immensely, no ups and downs (well maybe a few :P ) I went through some hellish detox symptoms but they passed within a few days. Now I actually look forward to not eating sugar. How weird is that! lol

It really hasn’t been that hard for me. The first day is the worst, and yesterday I only had a really intense craving once. Stevia is a godsend though. :)

Yay for no sugar. I’m in! Off to check out the chia pudding, and I’ll be using stevia as well. :)
P.S. Ricki is the best!

yay heather! And thank you so all the inspiration for eating low sugar too :)

Yay for no sugar too! NuNauturals is my “heart” of choice. Gena’s Chia Pudding is easy peasy – i’ve even add squeezed an orange and used that for some of the liquid, in addition to almond, hemp or coconut milk.

CHIA is my obsession!!! Must try this recipe ASAP! Thanks for linking it girls :-)

I’ve been trying to eliminate refined sugar, and limit even fruit / natural sugar intake. I definitely need inspiration and positive reminders – i will be joining you for sure! I need all the help i can get!

Carrie – we are here for you!

Ricki March 2, 2011 at 8:15 pm

Yay for chia pudding! I love the stuff–by chance even had some today (w/ vanilla almond milk and stevia–yeah!). And congrats on the no-sugar approach. If you are allowing fruit, you can buzz some fresh strawberries in a blender or magic bullet and use it as part of the wet ingredients in the chia pudding–fantabulous (did I just write, “fantabulous”? Apparently. But it’s really that good). And thank you (and Heather!) for those sweet comments. Sweet WITHOUT sugar, of course. :D

Ricki – at the moment we are going to avoid fruit, at the start. Then add it back it later, so we will have to wait to try this :) And thank you for all that you do, such an inspiration for us!!

Megan @ Healthy Hoggin March 2, 2011 at 10:52 pm

I’m ready to cut out the sugar, too! I’m still allowing the a few lower-sugar fruits in my diet right now, but trying really hard to avoid dates, dried fruit, and obviously all refined sugars! Stevia is my new best friend. :D

You girls are just the motivation I need! Thanks!!

Dianna March 14, 2011 at 3:24 pm

Which brand of chia seed do you use?

Reply

Pure2 March 14, 2011 at 7:18 pm

Dianna, we like Navitas Naturals, Blue Mountain Organics or Ultimate Superfoods, we like them all!

I have actually put dates back into my diet because I have gotten a lot less sensitive to it. However, before I would use nut butters as a binder, chia gel for eggs, bananas as sweeteners (if you can handle them). If you want to use a sugar-substitute, try stevia. It is the best one I have found, but I really don’t use it that often. It is made from an herb.

Pure2 March 6, 2011 at 5:42 pm

Thanks Alex, oh yes we love stevia. We have been using it for about a year now to help reduce our sugar intake. For the moment trying not to have any fruit, so nut butters are high on my list to eat :)
