Good morning friends,
As I am sitting here this morning eating some carob flavored chia pudding and catching up on google reader. I came across my friend Janetha’s post about getting back on track which got me thinking.
Made me think about how I have gotten so off course with my usually good habits.
- Like how I used to go to bed at the same time every night (before midnight).
- Like how I used to get up at 6am or earlier (more like 6:45 or 7am now).
- Like how I used to drink a lot of water (slowly getting better at this).
- Like how I spent more time with friends (had a social life).
- Like how I rarely ever made excuses for things (catching myself doing this more now).
- Like how I am starting to really compare myself to others. (sometimes I feel blogging has put this pressure back on myself)
- Like how I used to eat and not think too much about it (now I am re-thinking my eats all the time)
- Like how I am sitting here thinking of things that I am not doing to my best ability instead of actually doing them
*me before going out last Saturday with friends
I feel a few years ago I was so good about sticking to my list of things to do and things that I need to do to stay healthy. By lately (really ever since Michelle and I moved again) we have been having a hard time getting back into a rhythm of things.
This candida cleanse that we are both doing has been helping me re-focus and get motivated again to make changes.
- how I have been enjoying my few glasses of warm water each morning before eating anything (really helps get the stomach moving for me).
- how I have been enjoying some form of chia pudding every morning before working out.
- how I am starting to take a few supplements again (MSM powder, probiotic, Vita-D).
- how I am back to having my morning meditation again (I go through periods of being good at this).
- how I am working on a road trip to see friends.
- how I am enjoying meals out of pretty cups or plates (makes the meal more meaningful and fun).
Janetha mentioned that she is going to set goals to keep her on track. I have never really been that person who is really good at making goals and sticking with them. Since my goals seem to change from time to time. But Michelle and I are big on writing things down and checking things off our list once they are done! That helps us feel more accomplished.
So here it is Tuesday and I better get moving on my list of things to do and try to put myself first to get back to my old habits of staying on track!
Time for me to go get my butt kicked from bodyrock tv
Twins Question: What about you? Do you think you have changed at all with your habits? Are you better about staying on track or do you get side-tracked more often? Any interesting tips on staying on track?

Gosh, I wish I could give you tips. The problem is that life is constantly changing and that means you have to change with it. I think taking one day at a time and never beat yourself up over the past…it’s all about the future. I’m the worst at getting side tracked (like now when I’m supposed to be doing some book keeping), but I know I need to work on that and I’m going to try to do a little bit at a time until I work up to where I need to be with it. I hope you two have a great day!
Thanks Sarena! Yes taking one day at a time is what I plan to do too
Have a great day too!
I definitely go through cycles with my habits- sometimes I do really well with all of them, and then life changes a bit and it’s harder to keep up with them. Lately I’ve really been trying to get more sleep and drink more water, both of which make me feel better than anything else!
Gabriela I totally agree with you!
i’m with ya love, i’m constantly trying to set goals and make them a priority and then I slip and remember all over again ,it’s like a never ending cycle! Water is my big one that i’m trying to work on!!!!
Yes water is a big goal of ours too!
Small, short, attainable goals are the way to go bc you can enjoy the greatest sense of mastery and satisfaction!
I am so with you. I’ve faffed around for too long and my body and mind have paid for it. I was really inspired by Janetha’s post too. So yeah, buckling down time! Not in a mean sense of deprivation, but in a helpful way of guiding me back to better habits and calming my inner wild child. Because I feel better when I live healthier; it’s as simple as that.
So true Mimi! Cheers to that
We must be sharing brainwaves
Like I said in my post today — I’m getting totally off track on my sleep habits these past couple weeks. I made the commitment to be in bed at a reasonable hour this week, and I am determined — I am also tired, which helps with the whole “determination” thing
I love that you included the positive changes that are happening in your life right now too!
Yes Katie we must be on the same brainwaves!!! Sleep is another big ‘me’ task I need to take focus on again!
Janetha’s post hit home for me too. But I think each year we learn more about ourselves and how to embrace our flaws. Or rather, how to make the best of the them. Right?
Cheers!
Yes Lindsay! Making the best out of each year and learning each day!
It is so nice to know that others are in the same boat, right? We are all just trying to figure out how to make the most of life!! I love your thoughts. Making lists and checking things off is one of my favorite things to do. It helps get things accomplished, that is for sure. We are in this together!
Love to you both!!
Yes we are!! Love you too girl!!
Usually i’m pretty good about sticking to my goals but lately with more to do and less time for it i’ve been slacking. A need to work on that!
Gorgeous pic of you! I am pretty good with sticking to my habits, but i tend to slack at times. Like green juice, I was having it daily over a month ago, now I rarely make it! Same with hot lemon water before breakfast, I stopped that too. The one thing i stick to is my workouts!
and veggies!
Same here Lauren, we go through similar issues with sticking with habits. And yes we stick with workouts and veggies too
Love Janetha! It’s easy to fall back into old patterns of behavior, but I constantly have to remind myself of when I feel best. It’s hard sometimes (and even a bit anti-social) but I have to do what works for me! You can do it!!!
Thanks Mama Pea!
There are so many things that have changed in my life due to school and while school will benefit me in the long run, I have definitely fallen into a hole… I have hardly socialized all year, hardly any zumba or walking. 3 weeks and I’ll be back to myself (school is done!!) YAYA!!
I really need to work on bringing back some good habits! Things have been very stressful and emotionally strenuous lately and that’s when I let bad habits get the worst of me. I try to keep a vision of the person I want to be in my mind- healthy, happy, successful- helps me get back on track!
One in the same? I think so.
Life can get complicated and hard. I know how you feel about not following through with things or waking up later or losing out of precious YOU time (through mediation), or comparing yourself more… I feel the same way. Maybe some of it comes with the age we are at..? Who knows.
I think just being aware helps A LOT.
Good luck, we’re all here with ya (and for you)!
I wouldn’t beat yourself up over not waking up before 6am. Your body probably needs the sleep–most people don’t sleep enough.
Yes Bitt, sleep is one thing we struggle with, well Michelle more than me.
Awesome post!!! I loved that post of J’s, too, and love where you went with it.
Morning meditation, taking the supplements you know work for you, etc..all such good stuff!
I just posted about Quitting The Gym. It’s one of those things that was not keeping me on track, but just making me feel more scattered and frantic so I said screw it. Quit. And workout at home. And am way happier!
Averie – agreed, we love working out at home! We quit our gym membership about a year ago and love it.
I’m with you: I’ve moved several times over the past few years, and it really throws your health routine off. Just hang in there, focus on getting back into one schedule at a time, and you’ll be back to where you need to be
I go through phases of eating really cleanly and feeling good about myself to not really paying attention and (gasp) gaining around 10-20 lb. I’m not kidding. This has happened many a time for me (and it’s scary!) I don’t know…I wish I could just eat cleanly, “slip up” a little & maintain, but instead it’s eat cleanly, slip up, gain, freak out, eat cleanly, repeat… I’m working on ending this cycle, though.
Great post! Thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts. I’m not much of a goal-setter myself and don’t write many lists either but do find writing things down help if I’ve got a lot of things swirling around in my head – it can be overwhelming if not organized! Anyway, I’m finding a need to refocus as well. Love the pic of you!
thanks Heidi
This spoke to me – I am a mess lately! Since I came back home from 105 degrees, I have gotten myelf back on coffee (to deal with the jet lag), have been going to bed late and getting up late, can’t seem to get moving (hence the coffee), meals have been poorly-planned, the vitamins have been largely forgotten, etc… Need to get it together asap!!!
we hear ya!! you will get back on track!
