we made it! it is Friday! from the help of our workout yesterday afternoon it really helped Michelle and I stay focus for the rest of our evening. we created mini to do list for different issues and we continue to tackle them one by one.
this morning to jump things off for us we went to a yummy breakfast that we love making…buckwheat cereal. we love creating new ways to enjoy it.
like our
chocolate hemp seed milk buckwheat cereal bowl
so putting together a new idea is pretty simple for us. and fun
the fruit we had on hand for us to enjoy was kiwi. we love kiwi but do not really eat it that much. not sure why…we just don’t. we buy it from time to time for something different. we love buckwheat because it is naturally gluten free and is easy to work with.
if you do not have kiwi on hand please feel free to throw in any fruit of your liking or what you have in the kitchen. it is all about having fun and keeping it simple with this one.
pure2raw recipe: kiwi buckwheat cereal with cinnamon hemp seed milk (raw, gluten-free, vegan, soy-free, low sugar)
prep-time: 5 minutes
serves: 1-2
tools needed: blender to make hemp milk
Ingredients:
- 1 cup buckwheat groats, raw (soaked for a few hours and rinsed well)
- 3-4 kiwis, skinned
- as much cinnamon hemp milk as liked (recipe below)
Cinnamon Hemp Seed Milk Recipe:
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup hemp seeds
- 1 tsp cinnamon (we used a lot because we love our cinnamon please adjust to your liking)
- 1 tbsp mesquite (optional just adds in more depth of flavor)
- splash of vanilla
Directions:
Place all ingredients (water, hemp seeds, vanilla, cinnamon and mesquite) into your blender and blend till hemp seeds are well blended. May add in a sweetener if you would like, for us we just relied on the kiwi for sweetness.
Once everything is mixed together nicely pour into a glass container. *again you may strain your milk for any pulp but we did not do this part.
to make the cereal:
add in 1/2 cup soaked and rinsed buckwheat groats and place in a bowl. don’t be alarmed if the soak water seems slimy. this is normal when soaking buckwheat groats. just make sure you rinse the buckwheat thoroughly before using.
pour your cinnamon hemp seed milk over your buckwheat groats. top with slices of kiwi.
*if you do not have raw buckwheat groats you may use this milk on top of any cereal or oats of your liking. you may also add in a sweetener if you like.
nothing beats a little simple breakfast with a touch of sweetness to start the morning with a bang.
you can buy buckwheat groats from most health food stores in the bulk bin section. make sure to get raw buckwheat groats not the roasted kasha kind. as kasha is not raw. and just soak your buckwheat groats for at least 4 hours. this allows them to be more easily digested in your body. as you know we are all about easier digestion around here. you can even sprout the buckwheat groats if you would like.
buckwheat has a little nutty flavor that we just love.
here are some fun facts about buckwheat groats:
- naturally gluten-free
- alkaline forming grain compared to others
- fruit seed that is related to the rhubarb family
- contains 8 essential amino acids, including tryptophan
- great source of protein
- high in manganese and other vitamins like B and E
sounds like a winner to me! what about you? do you like raw buckwheat groats? have you ever had them?
till next time,
xoxo

Yay for Friday! And buckwheat! And kiwi!
I grew up in a place that is 1 of the 2 largest buckwheat producers in the US…so I grew up with it thinking it was super normal to eat…and not knowing about its health qualities. In my town there’s an enormous pancake griddle from when we held the World’s Largest Buckwheat Pancake Guinness Record in like 1989… yep, that’s our claim to fame

Thanks for the reminder to have some kiwi! Yum…
I am cautious about buckwheat for two reasons. One–it hurts my tummy at least sometimes, and I think that it has a protein in it that is problematic for some people with celiac, so I tend to avoid it.
Two–it has a toxin in the sprouted greens that causes a photosensitive rash–and I had a friend who got the rash eating sprouted (not greens) buckwheat every day for a while. So I think it’s wise not to eat it every day. That said, I love how easy it is to work with and I do love the taste. I should maybe try it again and see if my tummy will cope, but because of the celiac warning, I tend to stick with amaranth and quinoa…
