moving to La Jolla

by lori on February 15, 2012

haha I wish!

so glad to see everyone else loving San Diego as much as Gary and I did. plus all our chocolate treats recipes.

to round-up my trip out west I have a few more photos of my journey.  Gary and I decided to drive around the San Diego area and get to know the city better. but first there had to be breakfast! I researched online before heading out and came across this site that mentioned a bunch of really cool places to eat for breakfast. I wanted something outside the main city and in the more laid back beachy, low key areas of San Diego.

luckily I found such a cafe. and this breakfast place was everything that I was looking for and more. I loved the area and loved the food choices! they offered smoothies and juices – love seeing those options on menus!

breakfast in San Diego

Swami’s Cafe in Encinitas off highway 101 is a must stop for me from now on whenever I am in southern CA area.  I adored it so much. I loved the vibe, the food, the location, really everything.

Gary and I both were pretty hungry so we got some fresh juices along with our breakfast.

fresh juice and coffeeI also got my coffee. the juice I got was beet and carrot with fresh ginger.  it was perfect. Gary got a apple ginger juice which he too loved.

veggie omeletteI got a veggie omelette filled with zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, and peppers. it was delicious!

swamis cafe in california

I love finding cute jems like this one on my travels!

after a filing and wonderful breakfast it was time to hit the highway 101 to see some sites.

highway 101 street sign in Californiagot our fresh juices for the road.

first stop was

torrey pines golf courseTorrey Pines Golf Course

the torrey pines golf course in San Diegoit was a beautiful golf course indeed.

Gary was in heaven. he did not get a chance to play a round that will have to be another time.

gary at torrey golf course in CAsorry Gary another time

we got back in the car and continued our drive down to La Jolla!

lori in la jolla beacheven though it was not a very sunny day and a little chilly we both enjoyed our time in La Jolla.

beautiful waves at la jollalove the sound of waves hitting the rocks.

gary at the la jolla coastlineI tried to convince Gary we should move here. I am still working on it.

surfer not too many surfers in the water but did see a few.  not sure how they do it…that water always looks so cold.

seals at la jollasaw lots of seals in La Jolla. they are just so cute!

coast at la jolla

enjoying la jolla san diegome enjoying the scenery and taking lots of pictures.

after walking around La Jolla for awhile we both started to get a little tired so we stopped by another little cafe to grab a little pick me up.

coffeeblack coffee for me and a cappuccino for Gary

cappuccino break we were both still very full from our late breakfast so we just snacked all afternoon on Twin Cakes goodies.

then after our little break we walked around some more. it was hard to leave La Jolla.

there was so much beauty.

caves at la jolla

we said goodbye. till next time La Jolla you will be sunny when I visit again.

we got back in the car and continued our drive to see more of San Diego area. we both enjoyed seeing all the cute little towns/areas and shops along the coastline.

mission beachwe drove all the way down to Mission Beach. got out of the car and walked around some.

enjoying mission beach san diegothe beach was so beautiful, almost reminded us of Oregon coast when we were there a few years ago.

got back in the car and drove around Little Italy area and Old Town San Diego

little italy in San Diegothen we finally started to get hungry and decided to eat an early romantic early Valentine’s dinner.

something about this statue that I just love.

we ate at the Top of the Market restaurant. the food and service was amazing! a perfect night.

we really enjoyed our last night in San Diego.

enjoyed a few glasses of wine, good conversation and a little celebration…looks like we might be home owners here soon.

well that was our trip to San Diego in a nutshell. I really enjoyed my second trip out to sunny CA and can’t wait till I can visit again.

Twins Question: What is your favorite city to visit? Do you like eating a local restaurants while traveling? Who else is golf fans and been to Torrey Pines? Is there one statue that stands out to you above all the rest? mine (and Michelle’s favorite) is the David in Italy, truly impressive.

till next time,

are you really thinking of moving there?! I would love to live in california someday, probably more northern than san diego, but such a gorgeous city. What a fun day you two had!

I can’t convince Joe to move to So Cal….I think I’d pick Santa Barbara or San Diego….or La Jolla sounds good too!

My favorite places to visit are all those Cali places plus NYC, Boston (because I lived there), DC, Charleston SC, and Marco Island/Naples in FL…..ah, I need the beach!

You definitely captured the dreaminess of this place! I’m not interested in visiting Cali at all, but man, you make me wanna check it out. There’s a neat seventies beach vibe to these photos… steamy and adventurous… lost in the Cali-ness of everything… I feel like I’ve slipped into a Hunter S. Thompson book… which is all your skills, I’m sure!

Fave place to visit? My two are Salem, Massachusetts, and the tiny town of Haworth in Yorkshire, England. Both I plan to revisit many times in my life. When I travel, I ALWAYS research the good vegan, allergy free spots – whether cafes, restaurants, or health food stores. That was my FAVORITE thing about traveling in the UK years ago. Screw seeing historical crap. I stopped at every health food store in every town! It was so neat to meander through the aisles and see what kinda stuff they had.

Are you for real moving to Cali?! I always hoped to stop by your farmer’s market on a road trip down south. I thought it would be hilarious to walk up to the pure2raw stand and be like, I’m FartyGirl!!! Ha! But yeah, this Jolla place looks pretty dreamy.

Have a great rest of your trip!!!
