exciting news

by lori on March 29, 2012

well I got some exciting – BIG – news to share with you all.

I know Michelle and I keep saying things like, “got some good news to share”  a lot here lately. well, we are finally able to start sharing some things.

yesterday was a big day for Gary and I.

buying our first homewe are officially homeowners.

we had our closing yesterday. for those that follow me on instagram saw me hinting at some things.

closing of buying a home

you might remember after my last ordeal of selling my first home, I was not to keen on buying a house anytime soon. but now that I am getting married next month, Gary and I really want to start the next chapter of our lives together as a married couple.

my new front door.

you will start to see more things from me about home renovations as this house is old, and needs some work done to it.  I have already asked a few times on facebook about wood floors, and you might have seen me start a new pinning board for new house ideas. let the fun begin.

another angle of the front

the backyard area, a little more trees then what we wanted but still nice. just needs a fence…for the dog we hope to get one day…hopefully soon. and needs a good blowing of leaves, as majority of the yard is leaves! oh boy, that will be Gary’s job haha

love the back deck! just needs a little cleaning and another stain on it.

this house took awhile for us to make a decision on buying it or not. so after much thought and debate, we decided to do it! so looks like Charlotte will be home for some time. this is house is a little old but has so much charm. we are very excited and a little nervous. can’t wait to share more of what we do to the house!

Twins Question: Where is your favorite place to get house remodeling items and ideas? DIY projects? Any tips for this new adventure for Gary and I?

I have bookmarked a lot of posts already from the Young House Love site. which I have already spent so much time on that site, love it!  I will share more pictures of the house in the days to come.

till next time,

xoxo

Lori

PS- next up is some protein powder talk from readers request

It is absolutely beautiful! I can already imagine y’all hosting a smalll cocktail evening. Laid back, but chic… Minimal flowers, fresh bites, everyone brings a bottle of wine. Can I come? Jk
Love brick!
So happy for y’all!!! I hope to own a home one day soon. Doing things a little backward with 3 kids.
Cannot wait to see design pictures. I like to go to Homegoods for discount designer items.

Congratulations! I know I’m more of a lurker than a commenter, but you guys have been an inspiration for me ever since I found your blog, I had to pipe up for this one though, because that’s worth an extra “congrats!” or two.

Pinterest is actually a great place to get ideas for home stuff. I can’t remember if you were one of the bloggers I follow that already has an account, but if you aren’t, I can easily toss you an invitation.

I just bought my first home this year as well (a condo, but still my first home!) and the most important thing I’ve learned is to make a list of EVERYTHING (no matter how small) that you think you might want to do to improve the place. Keep the list somewhere convenient. You may not get to it any time soon, but it keeps you from falling into the trap of “good enough” after you’ve lived there a while. (I had “pink light bulb for the bedroom” on my list for MONTHS, but I’m so glad I didn’t forget that I wanted it — that soft warm glow really makes the room feel relaxing!)

I can’t wait to hear about your favorite projects (and your possible-puppy!)

Congrats! Beautiful house and so exciting! I’m an HGTV nut so I love their site and most of the shows. For hard wood floors you might want to go original to the house and area, and ask around. I love the look of distressed wood and wish that we had gone with that. It’s just been a year now and we have deep gouges and marks.
Having old brick, I would get it all inspected, replace any if needed, checking for leaks and then get it sprayed. The spraying allows the brick to breathe but water will just roll right off of it.
I think your best bet is to put the hours in on the computer as to getting your style. Walk some stores and see what is available and start room by room.
We’re still in reno’s here and although it’s been hard at times I know it will be worth it. I hope you have a blast, and I can’t wait to see what you do with your new home :)

Congratulations!! The house does look uber-charming. Sounds like Pinterest will be your best friend for these next few months ;)

Matt and I were looking into buying, and we made offers on a couple places earlier this year, but didn’t get them. So we settled on renting, and we move into our new apt. downtown on 1.5 weeks. Still, I’m excited! Moving always feels like a fresh, clean start.

Congratulations. It looks like a beautiful North Carolina home and setting. What I first noticed, however, is your muscular arms, Lori!! Wow! Great job on the planks and all your workouts. When I renovated my home back in 2005, there weren’t many great resources, and it was tough to be ‘green’. My ideas were all in my head from old, old issues of Natural Home magazine. I suggest using zero VOC paints and as many green materials as possible. I found great things at the Habitat re-use store and re-purposed them. I have already commented here on bamboo floors, also used cork. I like http://www.susanka.com/books/default.asp for her ‘not-so-big’ books and ideas.

!!! the little glimpses look amazing! i am so happy for you! i like to read dwell magazine and get most of my diy stuff from ikea for the cost factor. i love home projects! we did our entire kitchen from studs so if you have any questions just ask! we also used a computer software program to design it ourselves! i miss that kitchen since our place in the city has a galley kitchen but it was nice while i had it!
