5 minute planks

by Lori and Michelle on April 23, 2012

hello luvs,

well we made it down to south Florida to get things ready for Lori’s big day at the end of the week. we are so excited for all the festivities to start. most of our friends and family are coming on Thursday (which is our birthday) so we are looking forward to just hanging out with everyone! we drove down so during our travels we enjoyed lots of green smoothies in the car plus some of our individual protein muffins.

eating protein muffinmichelle here enjoying hers. we are trying to work on new flavors for them, so stay tuned!

before we left out of town and before all the moving happened. we did one last video in Lori’s old place (sniff, sniff).

we answered some of the questions we have received about holding plank while doing our 5 minute plank. multi-tasking some. we have come a long way in our journey of holding plank from our 2 minutes starting point. we feel much stronger and better now!!

we hope you enjoy the video of us doing our 5 minutes of planks and that we answered most of your questions, if not let us know and we be happy to answer them. plus we provide some of our favorite ab moves lately!

we also got this dvd in the mail

beach babe tone it up dvdsTone it Up girls Beach Babe dvds! we are so excited that these arrived as they are going to be our workouts for the week.  we are both extremely happy with where we stand with our fitness goals and how we got those lean sexy arms for Lori’s wedding day.

we are now off to go try out the dvds!! we will let everyone know our thoughts later.

Twins Question: any new workout moves or dvd’s for you lately? what is your all time favorite ab exercise? how did you start your day today? with a workout or with a hearty breakfast?

till next time,

xoxo

pure2raw twins

we have a lot of wedding things to do today – we are doing most things ourselves so lots of DIY kind of projects that we plan to share here on the blog! stay tuned!

I wonder how you guys don’t get bored for doing plank for 5 minutes… I started this challenge last week and I’m at 2:30. I honestly feel part of the reason my time isn’t better is because I get bored and my mind wanders… then I start to focus on the pain more than anything. Do you guys chat to eat other most days? I’m sure that would help…. I’m considering placing a book under me to read or the iPad. Something to focus on, haha.
You guys are a great inspiration! I’d love to be at 5 minutes.

the boredom does play a factor! we try to do something else during the time, we do not chat every time. though we do watch tv or do something else to help.

omg! the wedding is so soon!!! you know, i have been doing a minute plank after i have completed a set of ab exercises and holy crap is it hard! i guess since the abbies are on fire from the previous work it makes it harder than ever!

new move for me is the grasshopper, i started my day by oversleeping, taking a shake to work and forgetting to wear a bra LOL. at least i have a baggy sweater on! my all time fave ab exercise is scissors

You guys have rockin’ abs!!! I love plank – I tend to do it for 3 minutes at the moment but I do 1 minute, 10 secs off, then another minute, 10 secs off etc as I just feel that I’m still at the point where that 10 secs off really helps me to re-set my form and ensure I am doing it right so I don’t injure myself. You guys are just plank rockstars!

Also, congrats and good luck for this week Lori! SO exciting, I can’t wait for the photos!

Well, I think you ladies are prettier–and more toned-looking–than the ladies on that dvd!

Great exercises you’re sharing! I do leg lifts every morning, but not with my arms over my head or a weight between my feet–I think I’d get nauseous! But I may have to try anyway.

You both look too skinny :-(
I may be extra sensitive right now due to the press the pro-ana movement has been getting. Please please gain some weight!! The abs close-up picture shows bones protruding like I expect to see on holocaust victims :-(
Not cool ladies.
(I do admire both of you but I’m worried!)

I did think about the pro ana/thinspiration cites when I saw the photos with the shirts up and I have been struggling with whether to post because I think your blog is AMAZING in so many ways and I would not want to offend. I have read a lot about those sites and have visited some. (I’m scared for my own daughter). It sounds like you both eat really healthy and get lots of exercise so that is awesome. I just had to chime in because the photos with your tummies is very similar to the type of thing girls on these thinspiration/pro ana websites do. The difference is you both seem to be doing the right things healthwise according to what I have read on your posts and the wonderful recipes you have shared are so healthy and tasty! I’ve tried quite a few. I just worry that those ab photos might inspire someone to go overboard trying to look like you, but like the other poster I am very sensitive to this issue based on all the press.

Wishing you lots of joy this weekend and always!

Julie April 23, 2012 at 6:58 pm

Hi Lori and Michelle,

My name is Julie, and I recently discovered your blog. I finally had a chance to make socca today and boy was it delicious! :) My first trial turned out to be a little too crispy for my liking so I added more water to my second batter and it turned out so custardy and yummy!!! I wanted to thank you guys for such a detailed guide on making socca and now I just can’t wait to try all the variations. I think I’m going to make one again tomorrow with some carob powder.
As for the questions on this post, I’ve just done ab/core exercises today for my workout and my all time favorite one is alternating dolphin pose and low plank for a total of 10 reps, holding each position for 20-30 seconds. It really pushes you more to your limits than doing regular planks!!
Your blog is such a great resource, and I think I will be visiting pretty regularly! :)

Julie

thanks Julie we are so happy to hear all of this!!! Yay for socca making :) we missed it – we need to make some again here soon.
And ya for pushing yourself with your ab workouts!!!

I started my day with a big bowl of oats with some eggs mixed in. I had exams today so I wanted a protein packed breakfast that would power me through. I wanted to go to the gym after university but my body was like ‘umm no thank you I’m tired’ so I went for a big walk instead. Was just what I needed! Will definitely be taking this plank challenge on board

You.guys.nailed.it! Great video, good ab moves, and so true: abs ARE made in the kitchen. That’s my biggest challenge right now. I love working out and can stay consistent with it, but it’s the eating at night after a long day and not prepping a good meal that get me! Thanks for the inspiration to clean up my eating; I’m going away to Mexico this weekend and want to feel (and look) great! …off to plank. Seriously. :)

Inspired by my awesome Fitness class at home (I’m interning in another city at the moment) I do a four-minute-plank every morning after getting up. It seriously helps tone my abs. I’ve also started lifiting my legs interchangeably while holding the plank to work my bootie.

You’re much fitter than me, though.
