hello friends,
thank you all for the comments on our post yesterday, we knew it was kinda left wing all of sudden. and from the looks of it, looks like we have caused some confusion. sorry about that. it seems there are some of you that are totally against the 80/10/10, those that are curious about it, and those that are trying it out themselves.
we just want to clarify somethings about our eats lately. we do appreciate those wanting to hear more about this way of eating. and for those that do not really care too much we promise we will share more recipes and fun stuff as well.
we felt as being bloggers, when we get something to review we have an obligation to try it and give an honest review. maybe it is just us. we are those people that truly try something and then give feedback and thoughts about it. we have never done anything near 80-10-10 before so we thought we would try it out to see what it is like. we have heard about the 80/10/10 and thought there is nothing wrong with adding in more fruit to our current diet.
we are at a point in our health that we are comfortable with our bodies and know what our bodies can handle. and we feel when you try something new it can provide you with even more knowledge about yourself! and to us that is important learning tool! we are happy! we are happy with our food choices and our bodies! we never said we were not, the main reason why we still play around with our diet is due to our SKIN!!!! as Lori is still struggling with acne!
we are always intrigued by ‘healthy’ things, and when this book crossed our paths we found it very interesting. just like with most “diet” things we have read, everything sounds promising. everything promises it is the answer to your health concerns.
well if you have been following our blog for some time now, you would know we do not agree with this. there is no one diet out there. there is no perfect answer.
so how are people supposed to get healthier with so many conflicting ways of eating out there? good question…we do not have the answer. sorry we wished we did.
as food/health bloggers we take a risk in getting judged on what we do and share here on the blog. even with knowing that, we wanted to share what we are doing so we could openly discuss it. share it with others.
okay lets get to the questions that you all asked yesterday in regards to us trying out the 80/10/10:
1. why are we doing this? we felt like we had to try it to see how we liked this concept of high fruit low fat. plus we thought now, being the summer time, is a great time to eat more fruit. and we are not the first ones in the world to do this. plus it has been nice for 3 days to eat simple meals, kind of giving our body a little break from other type of foods to digest. and we feel there is nothing wrong with that. and still trying to figure out Lori’s face and hormones. (and for people reading this you do not have to do this diet if you get the book, that is not what we are trying to say, sorry if that is what comes across)
2. how are our bodies handling all this fruit? so far so good. no major bloating or anything unusual. nothing too exciting has changed with our health. though we have only done it for 3 days, all we feel is lighter during the day with a little bit more energy. but again nothing major.
3. how do we feel? so far great! no major complaints besides by the end of the day we are craving our fats and protein. which we normally eat some eggs or something with a dark leafy green to satisfy us. so again not following the 80/10/10 perfectly.
4. do we worry about Candida? not really because we know we are not doing this long term. plus in his book he makes reference to his thoughts with Candida and fruit.
5. has our body weight changed? no we are still the same weight. (though that is not why we did this change in eating, we explain in the video) as we say in the video we are still eating a lot of calories!! THAT IS KEY
6. do we plan to do this long term? no. we just might incorporate more of his idea of more fruit into our everyday lives. we do like feeling light and having energy during the day from the lightness that fruit provides us.
7. are we doing this 80/10/10 100%? no. we do our best to follow his suggestions but we do end up having some of our healthy fats and protein ‘sources’ at night.
8. thoughts on the change in eating so far? it is ok. we can not see ourselves doing this very much longer. though eating this fruit has been nice and we have been enjoying it. we do not think it is for us for long term. we feel it is great especially during the summer time, and feel it is a great way to kinda cleanse yourself with natural fruits and dark leafy greens.
9. do you recommend anyone else trying this out? can not really say. we are no experts nor doctors. we suggest you do your own research and read the book and then make a decision about doing it or not. again speak with a doctor before doing anything! we just like to share what we are doing and if we notice any major health changes for our own personal health issues like energy, gas, constipation, acne and hormone issues we will share. (no major changes or improvements in these departments)
we are getting to the point in our life where we just eat what we feel like. we do not worry to much about anything anymore. there is always going to be something out there telling you something different. you just have to find out what works for you and your lifestyle, knowing that it is ok to change things up from time to time. we also believe it is all about balance. and you have to find what works for you mentally as well. and know that what makes you feel your best might be different then someone else.
we also did a video explaining more about our thoughts and why we are doing this, how often to do go to the store, is this helping with Lori’s acne, and discuss our weight.
hopefully we answered everyone’s thoughts.
thanks as always with sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. we really do appreciate you all so much. we love hearing what others think about things and if they have tried something and to hear their opinions. that is how we learn right. from hearing and talking with others, seeing what works and what does not?
we honestly did not put any expectations on us with these new eats. just trying something new out, which sounds like many of you enjoy doing as well because that is when you feel you learn the most about your body. we agree. if you are really wanting to try this way of eating out, we suggest hooking up with a doctor or nutritionist to help you along the way.
looks like some of you understood why we are eating this way for a few days and looks like many of you got the wrong idea. we are sorry if we caused any confusion. hopefully this cleared some answers. again to clarify we ate this way from getting the book, it intrigued us, we tried it, we learned some things from it and now we move on. we apologize for causing sadness or confusion with you all that was not our point. again we are happy, we promise!
Twins Question: anymore thoughts about the 80/10/10? any more questions for us about it? we are still reading the book and will give a better review of the whole book when we are done with it soon. and for those that do not care about it, what is one thing you plan to get accomplished today?
till next time,
xoxo
pure2raw twins
thanks for listening to us. we felt like we needed to clear things up. **update – we will probably be looked down upon changing our diet to just do a review of a book but we thought it would be a good idea but guess we were wrong as many of you mentioned that we gave off the wrong ‘dieting’ image. so sorry about that. that was not what we are trying to do here. and again we tried this new way of eating for a few days to see how our bodies did mostly for energy and Lori’s face, that is really it. it was never about dieting. sorry if it came off that way, we apologize.

I don’t see the big deal…I try new things all of the time! That’s how you learn what is best for your body! Love your blog and your recipe ideas! No worries here!
Have a beautiful day!
thank you so much Tanya!!! HUGS
Good Morning! I am enjoying following you two
I love the experimental take on things and listening to yourselves and your body’s to know what feels right and what get results you want. Forgive me if you have already posted about this following question but i am so curious! After reading your post about experimenting with diet and what you were eating this week it made me curious how meals go for you socially and with loved ones husbands and family? I experiment alot too, and sometimes i find it challenging to eat with my boyfriend. He likes a deli ham sandwich and i like a bowl of berries with nuts on top… Its not like its undoable, but when he wants McDonalds… its just a challenge sometimes! We are not on the same food page and i wonder if you have any posts on the subject or care to speak to your experiences someday.
Thanks so much! Again, enjoying your Blog and congrats to you two for all thats new in your lives!
JEANNE
Jeanne, we have not really posted about that subject before on the blog. we will try to put some thoughts together for a blog posts. we understand it is a challenge in the social scene. usually we try to keep things simple when we go out and try our best not to make a big deal about things. it does take time for loved ones to understand our ways of eating. just know you are not alone and that you are doing everything right and that if you lead by example and are happy then they will follow us well. we hope this helps! thanks again for your support! hugs
aw love the video!! it never bothered me at all that you guys were doing it but still very well done video

I have been reading your blog for a while and the one thing you have always said is that everyone has to find what works for them when it comes to a “diet”. I have taken this to heart and continue to play around with what works. I think I have finally figured it out but it doesn’t mean that I’m not always going to work on it and change it along the way. It is a revolving door. Even with your change of eating, you always promote that you need to stick with nutritional and whole foods. I love the fact that you two are human and work to make you the best that you can be on the inside and outside.
thanks Kristen, you are so right it is a revolving door, love that way of putting it! thanks for the support hugs
I just ate an apple and an orange while reading this:D
I think it’s really cool you girls have the attitude you do about food (btw, so glad to be back reading your blog. I took a break from blogging and reading blogs to really focus on my health and go back to school). The more you read about nutrition and health, the more obvious it becomes that not everything works for everyone in the same way and there are a lot of other factors going on, not to mention that everyone has different goals. Maybe not everyone wants stand out abs, maybe someone is looking to get pregnant, maybe someone wants to really bulk up, or someone wants to reverse bone loss. It may mean prioritising some things over others, but you do what you gotta do to achieve your aims in a rational manner.
It’s crazy how many times I’ve changed my diet. But it’s the only way I’ve learnt about my health and really improved, albeit with some mishaps along the way! I dread to think where I’d be now if I’d just stopped and said ‘this will do’.

Eimear we are glad you are back too!!! yay! and you are so right! love ya!! HUGS
People were making WAY too big a deal of this. I know *I* was CONFUSED but saddened? Disturbed? Let Down? Fearing for your mental health and safety? No, no, no, and, uh NO. It WAS a little left field but anyone who reads this blog with remote regularity should know you girls enough by now that you’re not unintelligent, reckless or make decisions without thinking. In defense of EVERYBODY, though, things get “lost in translation” on blogs and the written (computer) word. We don’t live with you, see you day in and out so we miss out on a lot of things that motivate and drive you. Despite the fact that you post (almost) every day, share tons with us and are very forthcoming, the fact of the matter is we don’t experience even a fraction of your lives so some things AREN’T clear because of that fact.
What I’m trying to say is you don’t owe anyone apologies or even an explanation. You girls just have to, in the words of an old friend, “do you.”
Don’t let all the seemingly negative, down comments get YOU down. You’re both wonderful and all we all know it.
thank you so much Liz for commenting. you are so right!!! thank you so much we really needed to hear this! HUGS
xoxo
Perfect attitude! I don’t think you were being drastic at all. I think if people read your sight, I mean actually read, they would know what you were doing. You were very clear about it and I think it’s important to give a real review if that’s what you said you would do. I think changing your diet up is a great thing. You really do see what your body needs and how it works with different fuel! I eat A LOT of fruit, but I agree, I need my fats and protein. I didn’t realize that until I really focused on certain aspects of my fuel sources and now, when I don’t have my protein now, I really start to feel it.
I think you two are just adorable! Thank you for your honest review of the eating plan. Makes me feel a little more validated in all the fruit I eat! Hugs to you both! xoxo

Thank you for the additional information, ladies. The key is finding what works best for you and that will change constantly in our lives….would we rather be complacent? I think not and it is only with individuals that will go outside of the box that others can learn. I for one am scared to try that much sugar with candida and am intrigued that you have not had adverse reactions. I tend to do better on a high fat/protein…low grain but high veggie diet. Still tweaking ratios and dealing with hormonal “stuff” but I will get there. Out of curiosity before this diet what would you say your ball park daily calorie intake was and ratios of fat, carbs, protein grams? Also calorie burn…I think (know) I workout too much but really enjoy it…but also can’t lie that I am adamant about maintaining my weight. I am trying hard to find a balance. Happy and Healthy wishes your way! Oh and on the plank challenge…I am up to 4 minutes!
wooo hoooo!
Carolyn we are surprised too that our bodies seem to be liking all the fruit, so for now we are keeping up with eating a lot of fruit in the mornings and early afternoon till we our bodies tell us otherwise
and good for you that you are figuring out what works for you that is awesome and great job with the planks!!!
and for our beforehand diet – we never really counted calories nor anything else, so hard to judge, but it probably varied so maybe equal across the board with most of our calories coming from our healthy fats, eggs, and veggies. now most of our calories are from the fruit. hope that helps.
You guys have such a good attitude! I love it. I think it’s great that you are actually trying out the book before giving your opinions on it. It’s the way all good experiments work! I love your blog so just keep doing what you do!!
thanks Taylor, we will keep going
I agree with Liz. I read the post yesterday and didn’t even read through the comments until today. I enjoyed reading it and was humored by the amount of bananas. But the message that you were trying the diet to review the book was clear to me, so I don’t understand the negativity. As someone whose still struggling with taming my hormonal acne I can totally relate to experimenting with food and finding what works. I think I’ve finally found my balance, or close to it, but I still enjoy experimenting. That’s life! Our bodies are in a constant state of change. If it works for you, then great! If it doesn’t, great! You both obviously know how to listen to your body and make judgment calls. Who is anyone to tell you how to treat your body?
As for the comments regarding your physical appearance, I think you both look strong and healthy. You don’t look sickly and thin at all. Lori was glowing in her wedding pictures! You both look amazing. Keep rockin’ those abs with your planks!
thanks Courtney!!! we needed to hear this, you are so sweet. thanks! xoxoxo
One of your readers made the following comment on yesterday’s post:
“First, there is sound science behind Dr. Graham’s 80/10/10 diet, and it does account for enough protein ad fat as recommended by the WHO and other prominent international health organizations (all of whom have found that we eat way more protein then is necessary). A lot of people have thrived on this diet for decades now. They are able to be more fit and active than most members of society. They are healthy and vibrant… so where’s the danger in that? ”
As a former passionate proponent of the 80-10-10 diet, I have to say that none of what this reader says is actually true.
There is NOT actually sound science backing this book, it is called “crank science.”
And most importantly, there are very very few long term followers of this diet. What you find after hanging around for a while is that the failure rate is astronomical, and many end up with health problems. Those who speak openly about these struggles are banned from forums. I know because I was one of them.
There is very much a dark side to this diet, and I would normally urge extreme caution with proceeding, however, it sounds as if you both are approaching it with an extremely open-minded, non-dogmatic attitude and are including plenty of other foods.
Those who wish to read about the negative aspects of this diet should check out this site:

Heather
Heather thank you thank you for sharing this information and letting us know more about it. it is always nice to hear from someone who has tried it. we are getting that feeling that is not long term but nice for a few days kind of thing. too funny about that site, we will have to check it out. thanks again for sharing.
Personally, I always TRY something at least once. You never know anything until you try, so good for you guys !!

Lori & Michelle, I LOVE that you guys don’t just “review” things, but you actually DO them! Whether it’s a diet, or an exercise plan, you guys are so open about the results, which is amazing! I struggle with acne, so I’m always interesting in hearing about what works (and what doesn’t) for your skin! I really appreciate how open and honest you guys are. Thanks again!!!
And this diet sounds really interesting. I LOVE fruit, but I think I’d get bored after awhile. Besides, I’ll always heart vegetables

Liz @ IHeartVegetables recently posted..What I Ate [From the Fridge] Wednesday
I don’t normally comment on here, but I have some things to say. *Disclaimer*I am a person who does not eat nearly as healthy as I should!
I am the kind of person who rely on the twins for ideas and tips. First of all, the word “diet” is clearly the type of food a person eats (or drinks). Most of today’s society associates that word with losing weight. That is the main thing that the twins are trying to change about our views on nutrition and diets…..EAT HEALTHY! They NEVER talked about needing to lose weight. They are very open-minded and are willing to try anything…for our benefit! How often do people try something out for us (with the potential for negative outcomes), and give us honest feedback, asking nothing in return! None of you pay the twins for this. They do this to benefit the health of a community of readers. To criticize them for not following a “diet/eating plan” that you necessarily agree with, is absurd. They started yesterday’s blog by stating that they are simply reviewing a book, they have already successfully introduced fruit into their diet, and it is summer time! There is no better time to eat and enjoy fruit than NOW! (When I was in southern Afghanistan during the summer months with VERY limited food choices…I literally ate nothing but the fruit.)
The comment about protruding bones and BMI really made me angry (why I felt I had to say something…the twins have admitted their issues with self image and to tell them they have protruding bones is an insult). I have personally known the twins for 15 years and they have NEVER had “protruding” bones. They are solid muscle. If you see their pictures, do me a favor and check your closest anatomy book. The protrusions are muscle…not bone. I guarantee you their BMI is within a healthy range. They are solid and strong. To tell them to re-evaluate their choices is an attack on them…this is their livelihood….trying to find DIFFERENT healthy choices for all different types of people.
The girls never said that this diet is appropriate or advisable, to have a small amount of protein…they are simply reviewing the book. There is no way these girls will be able to stay away from their protein for a long period of time!!! (Even as Lori was getting ready for her wedding…nervous and stomach in knots….all she wanted was a cup of her protein pudding!!!!)
About drastically changing your diet like an actor fitting a role….everyone gets tired of their diet from time to time, they are not leaving behind their ideals. How is eating new things for a fun change a bad thing? This isn’t a life change, or a crash diet….it is an experiment!
The people confused about the candida and fruit issue…that is the whole concept behind this 80/10/10 diet. Stating that maybe (theory only) it is not actually the fruit causing an overgrowth of candida, but fat. The twins are reviewing the book and trying to see if they would be able to increase fruit in their diet, if they correspondingly decreased the fat.
To say that you are saddened by the twins choice in trying to find a perfect diet (again, diet just referring to the type of food they eat)…is ridiculous. They are concerned about THEIR OWN bodies. They want to tackle their skin issues and have not been able to find a ratio of foods that has helped with their skin. This has NOTHING to do with eating disorders….even bringing that up is coming out of left field considering the amount of bananas they ate!!
Sorry for the ranting but the twins have been my best friends for 15 years and I have always felt I had to protect them (they are sweethearts who want to avoid controversy at all cost) and I was always ready to fight for them! Love you girls and I am so proud of you!
Alyson we have no words to tell you how much we love you!! You said everything perfectly!! love you love you love you
Hear, hear Alyson:) Your comment really sums up my thoughts!
yay, Alyson! I don’t “know” the ladies like you do (just via the interwebs), but they seem like two sweethearts, and I’ve been so grateful to have come across their blog. they are lucky to have a friend like you who has got their back. yes, maam!
Oh my, sorry you got all that controversy, that’s no fun. I didn’t see the big deal. I actually think it is AWESOME you are trying it out instead of just reading it and saying its good or not, without even trying it. This is a great video, keep doing what you do
Haha, I also don’t blame you for not being able to eat more bananas.

Thanks, Ladies, for following up so conscientiously. I think it was a courageous and interesting idea to actually experiment with the diet in order to give a clear review.
However, for any diet, you really need at least a month to know for sure how it treats your body, as for the first week at least, you’re dealing with changeover-type stuff, especially if your previous eating style was very different.
All that said, it sounds like you’ve been really sensible about it, listened to your bodies throughout, etc. What you said about having it work well earlier in the day but needing something more substantial by evening made a lot of sense to me, and I’m glad you’re honoring that.
I’m jealous that it’s summer already where you guys are!
Again, I’ve seen some people do quite well on this diet (although very few for a long time), but I’ve seen a couple people get scarily sickly on it. I went back to eating this way just for a month or two last summer (I think I blogged about it a bit) and my anxiety got so much worse, I couldn’t justify continuing, although I love the concept. And, nowadays I can’t eat bananas at al! I sure ate a lot of them when I was eating this way, although not as many as most people, since I never ate more than 12-1400cals/day.
Keep us posted!
love

Thanks Ela, yes we understand with most things you have to give it time. But we really liked having a balance of everything. We just realized with this book is that we do not need to be afraid of fruit
especially now in the warm months. we are really trying to eat more seasonally, and since fruit is everywhere it is just happens to be what we want to eat. Oh gosh we are eating around 1800-2000 calories
we need them!
Hey, each to their own – you guys have every right to play around with your diet and try out new things! No harm in that. I think it’s great that you are so willing to experiment to see how your own personal symptoms change and improve. No one ever said blogs were lectures on how people should live their lives – instead they’re just you guys sharing your experiences, which I get and personally, I appreciate how honest and upfront you are about the things you do! So that’s just my two cents
.
thanks Anna!!! xoxo
i’m still surprised at some of the comments. i must be blind…i don’t see any ‘protruding bones’ etc, you both look fit, healthy and strong! i’m game to try anything once so i can’t say anything negative about your trial. it’s a review, people are freaking here lol. it’s fruit, there are far worse things to eat people! hugs to you both!

Hi ladies! I’ve been MIA for awhile, but I’ve caught up with some of your recent posts and had to comment. I love that you all try new things and share here. I don’t have the time to read the books and test out the different theories on eating, so I’m really glad to hear your perspectives on it. Yes, you put yourself out there through your blog, but I don’t understand why people think they can judge you and expect you to never try new things. It’s not fair to think that just because you have shared certain types of recipes before that you can’t try new things. I’m very intrigued by that book and hope to be able to look into it this summer! Please keep sharing

Hi girls! Since you mention acne, I wanted to tell you while I am thinking about it that about 2 weeks ago I started adding a pinch of baking soda to my facial cleanser at night and gently massaging my face to cleanse, and I will say my acne has been much improved (the pregnancy is making it crazy, and I am no longer permitted to do the microdermabrasion which was keeping me pretty clear).
I am laughing about your banana comment! I am not big on bananas myself, so when you mentioned you would be eating a pound, I was gagging just thinking about it!

Second..I do not agree with the 80/10/10 at all for ME…I am sure it has worked for some people, but that is neither here nor there. I understand where you girls were coming from, and while I don’t agree with trying it to review the book necessarily, I think your hearts are in the right place and you have never once talked about extreme “dieting” (I hate how that word is abused, it’s just the way someone eats!), or weight loss, etc. For you it’s about health.
And Lori, your skin is looking really great!! (Both of you are glowing)

I think it is great that you’re trying something new. How can you know if it works or not without trying, right? I think many people are afraid of the word ‘diet’. It doesn’t have to mean cutting calories and I feel that sometimes people get confused about that. As long as you’re healthy in the long run, you’ve made the right choice
I totally agree! I think our bodies go into seasons of craving certain foods! Maybe this summer season and the 80/10/10 is what your body needs. I am juicing a ton right now and thats what my body needs, i crave. I love how you say no diet is perfect, its true. It’s how you listen to its needs, that’s balance. Ya know?

Hey girls! I’ve so appreciated your encouraging, kind, balanced attitudes as you write about your lives! Please, please don’t feel embarrassed about this whole 80/10/10 experiment! I didn’t think you were a bit confusing or were going off the deep end, and I’m actually quite skeptical of anyone promoting anything they haven’t personally tried and believe in. It shows integrity that you were willing to experiment on yourselves, risking possible negative changes in how you feel, just to give us a good review!
That’s how I’ve discovered what works for me. Didn’t mean to ramble, but just wanted to send love and encouragement your way!
There are mountains of books, opinions and material out there insisting on the perfect way to eat, etc, and how will we know if we’re not our own guinea pigs?
Chelsea we appreciate your comment! and for your support. thank you thank you thank you!
Hi girls, I just started reading your blog recently. I want to let you know i too experimented with 80/10/10 and got really caught up in this diet. I felt great for the first couple months, then prgressively I began getting cystic acne all over my jaw line and cheeks, I continued with the diet thinking I was simply detoxing. Well after months of this and very strict 80/10/10 my face never got better. Also, I lost quite a lot of hair.
. Probably due to lack of protein. I eventually started incorporating organic eggs, salmon, and red meat and all my issues got better probably within the first 4 days. I’m no expert of course, just wanted to pass on my thoughts. I think many avid followers of this diet are quite disordered in their eating as I was also a member of the 30bananasaday site. Please be careful, I would hate for anyone to go thru what I did!
Xo -Kat
Kat thanks for sharing!! we are not doing the 80-10-10 we just experimented with eating a lot of fruit (still had eggs), but realize now it is not for us. We appreciate you sharing your story!!!
http://www.rawdetoxdietreviews.com/80-10-10-diet/
On one hand, I can’t believe such a ridiculous storm brewed in such a tiny tea cup… especially to the point were you thought you had to defend yourselves. Without even reading your first article more than a quick scan (it was a busy day at work!), it was very obvious that what you were embarking on was simply a thorough REVIEW of a book/diet/eating plan and this was in no way some ridiculous long term, weight loss scheme you were advocating.
On the other hand, I can (unfortunately) too easily believe the ridiculous storm that brewed…..
As one who follows a predominantly vegan diet (that is also heavily grain free and completely gluten and soy free), people are constantly judging my diet without understanding the whole nature of my nutrition plan. As a holistic nutritionist I am very aware of what works for my body and what my body’s complete spectrum of nutritional needs are – you’d be amazed at how many people simply don’t know that plant based protein is so readily accessible. It is frustrating and the constant need to defend my choices gets tiresome. I won’t even begin to tell you about the unwarranted reprimands and verbal lashings I received when I embarked/completed on a 10 juice fast. (Like you, this was not a long term weight loss scheme, but a detox reboot to give my digestive system some much needed rest and repair)
So, I just wanted to chirp in and say, you girls are amazing!
You are healthy, fit and well rounded.
And it shows in your all over “glow”.
And lastly, thankyou for such an amazing blog!
Hi, Lori and Michelle!! I previously commented before saying some 811′s like DR was very rude and dogmatic. I however, now feel a lot of the things he say are actually true. (Heck, I turned from paleo to vegan!) Have you watched the ‘Primitive Nutrition’ series on youtube? It’s sort of a critique of paleo diet with hundreds of scientific data, touching on issues such as WAPF, Masai Tribes, Denise Minger, and etc. It changed my life. Hope you check it out!! (warning: it starts off a little offensive to some, but it gets better, trust me
Hey Girls,
I just came across your website today and its amazing! It so great to finally find someone in the same boat as me, as I too suffer from acne after stopping birth control. My skin comes up in horrible cystic clusters and is so embarrassing, especially because I have had generally clear skin my whole life until I stopped taking birth control pills. Hormones became way out of whack and was what caused me to play with my diet and became way more health contious. At first I was eating waaaay too much fat in a day in the form of nuts, seeds, ‘superfoods’ dehydrated goods and I would get fevers and headaches, probably because I was not eating enough fruits and vegies. Desperate, I also switched to the 80/10/10 diet for a good solid 3 or 4 weeks following it down to the tee, and noticed my skin slightly improve with the cystic acne, however I ended up with many more smaller pimples and redness increased dramatically. My hair also became really dry and brittle. My skin worsened again towards the end of the 4 weeks, and I found it hard to keep going with the diet despite the increase in energy and digestive health I was experiencing. I then transitioned to a mostly cooked, vegan 80/10/10 way of living approximately 8 months ago and gradually, until now my skin has cleared. I do not currently eat 80/10/10, and incorporate a substantial amount of healthy fats everyday (especially avocado) but still moderate my intake of fats. I also pay particular attention to proper food combining to keep my digestive system happy. This has worked for me and at the moment my skin is the clearest it has been ever since! ( I still get 1 or 2 small pimples at a time but no redness or cysts). Just thought I would share my experiences on the journey to clear skin!
Good Luck and keep up the awesome work : )
Erin, thank you so much for commenting. I do plan on experimenting with my fat intake to see if it helps my skin. I do not follow the 80/10/10 diet anymore as I heard similar experiences to yours from other people. I do feel my body needs a balance of everything, just need to figure out what that is so my face can clear up. Thanks again for your support!! It means a lot! HUGS
yes Amanda we are very lucky
