getting new flooring

by lori on June 6, 2012

Hello friends!

Ever since being back from the honeymoon I have been going over to the house to check on it. And it is ALMOST finished!!

So hard to believe sometimes that this house is ours.

Gary and I are so excited to actually start living in our new house. And I think Michelle is ready to get rid of her extra roommates.

The original house had carpet on the stairs and the whole second level.  I am not a carpet fan so that was one thing that needed to go before moving plus the master bathroom needed major updates! This has been our first major remodeling project together as a married couple, plus this is our first house together. Nothing like starting married life with this project! But since we have been together for 10 years it has really been fairly easy besides waiting for it to be done.

We usually like to do things ourselves but realized this project needed the professionals.

Gary and I went back and forth on what hardwood flooring we wanted, really our budget came into play on what flooring to go with. We decided on red oak for our hardwood.

I was so excited when I saw these boxes arrive at our house a few weeks ago.

Before heading out of town for the honeymoon Gary and I stopped by the house and saw that they started to put down our red oak flooring.

We were both really pleased with the look of the red oak. We were nervous there for awhile as we were not sure how it was going to turn out.

Looking good right?

The other bedrooms.

Entry to the master bedroom.

Hard to believe this is what the floor looked like a few weeks ago.

Loving our new stairs.

I really am in love with this red oak. Even though it was not my first pick of wood flooring I am very pleased with the final result!

I will share more pictures of the house with you soon. Gary gets into town tonight after being away for work for a few days, so I am excited for him to see how the house is coming along! And actually start living in it :)

Here are my other updates in case you missed any:

bathroom

picking our tile

getting our granite and bathroom vanity

being patient with contractors

Twins Question: What is your favorite hardwood flooring? Do you like light or dark wood floors? For those that have wood floors how do you clean it?

till next time,

xoxo

Lindsay it took us several trips to the wood store and research online before we made a decision. There are so many options out there, it was hard to pick!

Melissa, that is usually what I use to for cleaning. I miss my bamboo floors from my old townhome, they were the best!

totally agree who homey they make a house feel!

the floors look great! I agree on carpeting, not really a fan. I love the look of hardwood, bamboo is my favorite (and easily renewable!). I once built a spa and we had bamboo hardwoods throughout… very pretty.

and I know exactly what you mean – we have been living in our house a month now, and I STILL cannot believe it is ours! giddy! :)

They look great!
We had the wood underneath the carpet refinished when we moved in so they are the old school skinny boards. Love them though.

I use a mix of 1/2 water, 1/2 vinegar in a spray bottle and wipe up with a micro-fiber mop I can wash. This is what was recommended by our floor guys.

Thanks Stacey! And we were hoping we had old hardwood floors under our carpet but that was not the case.

It must feel so surreal that it’s actually your house, and you must be beyond excited to move in and start decorating! Everything looks like its coming along absolutely beautifully.

I love our hardwoods and wished that they were all over the upstairs. The stairs and 3 rooms are all that have carpet and I hate it. Your new floors look amazing! We dust mop ours regularly and we mop with hard wood cleaner. We also run our roomba to keep the dust and cat hair down to a minimum.
