Finally pancake Sunday

Monday, March 8, 2010 at 12:30 PM

Hey everyone

How was everyone’s weekend?? We had a long one over here, but worth it ; ) Did anyone watch the Oscars?? We took the night off from work and enjoyed some wine and good entertainment. We just enjoy the awards shows…all the pretty dresses.

We enjoyed some good eats over the weekend…featuring some new recipes (which we will share ; ) )

Enjoyed a very large breakfast Saturday morning before we headed to the farmers market.

IMG_5221Buckwheat apple porridge. We have not had this in sooo long, it used to be our breakfast every Saturday morning last year before our Saturday markets. It is so simple and very filling, which is what we need for our long market days.

Sprouted buckwheat, apples, yacon, cinnamon, bee pollen

Sprouted buckwheat, apples, yacon, cinnamon, bee pollen

Our dinner was a lovely simple salad

mixed greens with avocado, kraut, and fermented veggies

mixed greens with avocado, kraut, and fermented veggies

Sunday morning we finally made some raw pancakes in honor of Heather’s Pancake Sundays.

IMG_5256These were not our best ones, it is pretty much just mashed up bananas. But we will share the recipe if you all want.

IMG_5262Yesterday we did our longest run yet since the marathon in January. Honestly we really have only ran 3 other times since the race, we just have not been wanting to run. We have been enjoying other forms of exercise.

Our goal was a 30 minute run, but it turned into a 9o minute run. We went up to the local park and got on a trail and did not know how long it was….but that is okay it was 60 degrees out and sunny!! We will take it!!

Pre-workout snack:

Cocoa date ball

Cocoa date ball

We have been testing out new workout snacks for our cookbook, yep having a whole chapter dedicated to what we eat for fuel and recovery ; )

And then dinner and dessert were both new recipes!!

Dinner:

Fermented Kelp Noodles

Fermented Kelp Noodles

With a side of kraut sprinkled with dulseIMG_5323Perfect Sunday dinner!! We think kelp noodles will become a regular Sunday dinner ; )

And dessert took 2 trials. We have been wanting to make raw carrot cake since forever!! There are tons of recipes out there, so we of course wanted to create our own. We wanted to make it out of carrot pulp, so the first attempt failed….ended up in the trash compost. Second was beyond perfect….way better than we were planning, it honestly tasted like real carrot cake!!!!

Can you tell the difference?

IMG_1354 IMG_5338

Not only was it raw but free of gluten, eggs, dairy, peanuts, corn, soy, and NUTS!!!

IMG_5345We had seconds…it was that good. I think I could eat this every night. It was beyond words!!  I know you all are thinking, do we plan to share the recipe….YES!!! We will expose this tasty easy to make dessert sometime this week ; )

Not a bad way to end the weekend.

We also tried a new product

IMG_5270Pure2raw Product Review

We bought this the other day at the store because our older sister loves it, so we had to try for ourself.

Verdict?

Different. It was very sweet compared to other coconut water, even though it claims to be unsweetened.

IMG_5275Maybe it is their types of coconuts? Or maybe it was due to being chilled and out of can? Who knows but it was bothering me that it was so sweet, a mental thing I guess.  But we drank it all. Not sure if I would purchase it again. Just maybe when I need something cold to drink. Lori did not mind it too much, enjoyed having something different.

For more information check out the company’s website, amyandbriannaturals.com.

Finally review : one thumb up

Have you tried this coconut drink?

Do not forget to get your orders in while the sale is on for St Patty’s Day, it ends Wednesday!!!

And for more great news our Twin Cakes Bakery website if finally up. It still has some tweaks but overrall we are just happy to have it up. We have been waiting a year for it ; ) So we will take it!

Till next time,

Michelle

Mesquite Avocado Pudding

Friday, March 5, 2010 at 01:57 PM

Hello friends,

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

Hope every one is enjoying their day. We are really excited because we finally have a nice warm weekend here in NC which is great for the farmers markets :)

We got some questions regarding our workouts – mainly with the Tracy Anderson mat method. This is the end of our 2nd week of doing her exercises which we do about 5 times a week. And we are starting to feel like we are getting stronger and getting a little bit more definition in our bodies. We know it is a slow process along with everything else in life ;) but we thoroughly enjoy her fitness concept. So we plan to continue it!  We have not been doing much running lately just about once a week. Yoga about 2-3 times a week!

After yesterdays Tracy’s session we enjoyed another great post workout pudding! Similar to ones you saw yesterday!  Love all the different combinations we seem to be just throwing together, yet all have some main ingredients like lemon or lime and something green to help alkalize us!

As I mentioned yesterday we created a delicious avocado pudding that we just absolutely LOVED! Plan to make this at least once a week ;) You do need a special ingredient to make it.. sunflower lecithin or any emulsifier would do like guar gum, etc. Though we personal love sunflower lecithin we use it in many of our recipes. Love the results it provides puddings and smoothies. What it does is that it combines all the ingredients together and gives a nice lightness to the puddings. It helps provide puddings especially this one, such creamy, and lightness that it feels like you are almost eating air!

march 2010 p2r blog 082

Pictures just do not do this avocado pudding justice!

march 2010 p2r blog 084

We inhaled this pudding in like zero point 2 seconds ;)

Directions:

Place all ingredients into food processor and blend on high speed for a few seconds. Stop and scrap down the sides and blend again for a few more seconds till it is fully combined and light and fluffy texture!

Optional topping: sprinkle with more mesquite

And place in a nice martini glass and enjoy!

march 2010 p2r blog 089 I guess I did not like it ;) Wiped the class clean!

We have finally come to the end of our fermented drink and foods series!! We will be showing here soon how to make water kefir! Another easy and healthy drink for you to incorporate into your daily life :) Water kefir has become a staple in our daily life. Video coming soon and plus an update on how our sauerkraut in a bowl is doing!

Random but delicious eats

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11:18 AM

Hello luvs,

Almost the weekend I know many of you are excited about that! Though we never really get ‘weekends’ anymore. Well things have been extremely busy around here which is always a good thing right ;)

We are so happy that everyone is considering making their own fermented drinks! Promise once you make them a few times you will get the hang of it!

We definitely have been eating well over these past few days.

Going along with our Tracy Anderson workouts and Yoga, we have been running once a week. A short simple 20-25 minute run/walks. It has been great to get outside when it is nice out to stretch the legs though mainly we have been doing Tracy’s workouts!

Also we have been playing around with different pre and post workout snacks/puddings ;)

Like this one

march 2010 p2r blog 002

A pre-workout chia mesquite date ball

march 2010 p2r blog 034A chocolate coconut date ball

Both have been great still a minor tweaking to them but overall gave us the energy we need for a great workout with not being too heavy.

Some post-workout puddings we have whipped up are

march 2010 p2r blog 008

Chorella hemp seed yacon lemon pudding

Another one

march 2010 p2r blog 040

Spirulina lemon yacon pumpkin seed sludge ;)

Both of these have been great and few ingredients! Love having either pumpkin seeds or hemp seeds after our workouts because give us the vitamins and minerals to help our body recovery from our workouts along with adding lemon to help alkalize the body!  Our puddings are not as pretty as our good friend Shannon Marie’s pudding in a jar :)

Some other great eats we have been devouring are

march 2010 p2r blog 015

Raspberry coconut kefir smoothie

Snack – lightly steamed fennel and leeks

march 2010 p2r blog 016

Dinner

march 2010 p2r blog 022Fermented veggies and sauerkraut arugula salad~

Another glorious dinner from a few nights ago

march 2010 p2r blog 055Sauerkraut with more steamed leeks and fennel with some steamed sweet potato. Nice and warm and comforting!

Tuesday we enjoyed our grapefruit spinach smoothie

march 2010 p2r blog 029

Yesterday morning we started our day with a 14 oz fresh juice!

march 2010 p2r blog 069

Since we snacked on some of these the night before (we were practicing new recipes for our Twin Cakes bakery) We were not really hungry for a large green smoothie so juice hit the spot!

march 2010 p2r blog 065Gluten free vegan banana sticky buns – recipe came out great! Love that when that happens because gluten free ingredients are not cheap ;)

Don’t worry we have lots more great eats coming :) Last night we made a delicious avocado coconut kefir pudding – we will share the recipe tomorrow! Believe me it is heavenly! :)

News:

Remember out blog t-shirts are only on sale till March 19th!!!  Keep those orders coming :)   And for those of you who were asking these are girl size shirts. Sorry guys, we will get a men’s shirt soon!

Happy Thursday to you all! xoxo

Great workout snacks

Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at 01:15 PM

Hello friends,

Glad to see that everyone likes our take a tortilla :) Check out our guest post on Eating Bender to learn more about our story ;)

Check out this amazing ice-cream giveaway!

Today we wanted to talk about what we have been doing for workouts snacks both pre-workout and post-workout! We get many of our ideas from Brendan – you all know we are fans of his. We have talked about his most recent book here if you are interested in learning more about him and his whole concept of food and fitness :) Great read!

We have been trying puddings as most of our snacks. We are huge fans of puddings, we like really thick puddings too! Ok we might have weird taste buds ;)

We enjoyed eating this delicious pre-workout snack a few days ago

feb 2010 pure2raw blog 615This date mesquite ball was perfect for a quick but intense workout to give you the energy you need! We plan to make more of these again soon and keep in the refrigerator to have on hand.

feb 2010 pure2raw blog 619Another pre-workout snack that we have been playing around to see if it gives us energy and makes us feel good while working out is coconut kefir. For example this one

feb 2010 pure2raw blog 532Coconut kefir mixed with spirulina, dates, vanilla, banana, coconut oil,  maca, and cacao nibs.

Our bodies really seemed to like it. We ate this about an hour or more before we worked out. We felt it was great for our hour long workouts!

We have been making some fun post-workout puddings. *warning some may not look the prettiest but promise you they were amazing!

Like this one

feb 2010 pure2raw blog 607This was pumpkin seeds flour, spirulina, lemon juice and zest, yacon syrup, maca and a splash of water.

It made a very small pudding but that is all we needed immediately after working out. We than come back about an hour later or so to make a large green smoothie!

Another great and very thick pudding was this delicious ‘>chocolate Vega shake that we made into a pudding.

feb 2010 pure2raw blog 667

We just took some Learn more>”>Vega Protein powder and mixed with maca, chia seeds, lemon juice, stevia, and a splash of water. Stirred till everything was combined. feb 2010 pure2raw blog 670 Yummy and thick a great post-workout snack in our opinion and our bodies seem to love it!

And after today’s workout we had something very similar though we made it out of hemp protein powder. (sorry no picture).

As you can see some of these pre and post workout snacks had ‘sugar’ in them from bananas to dates. This is about the only time we have any sugar except for stevia and yacon syrup. Though we are really going to try to cut back even more on our overall ‘sugar’ intake for a couple of weeks and rely mostly and vegetables and healthy fats (and certain fruits) to fuel us (with the occasional protein powder puddings).

We actually took a few weeks off from having any protein powder but these past week we have incorporated them back into our post-workout snacks. We have been trying to increase our intensity of our workouts and our overall strength training program so decided to give the powders a try again to see if we noticed any great improvements. We will keep you all updated on how we do with that!

So far we are feeling great and loving the way we are feeling before, during, and after our workouts! With fit-bloggin coming up soon we are giving ourselves a little challenge to keep our intensity up and eat very clean. We will see how that goes ;)

Now here for some exciting news that we have been talking about lately!

In honor of our love for blogging and fitness. We teamed up with a new and up-coming ‘green’ t-shirt design company to help us create fun and cute shirts for all to enjoy! More information on that soon!

We will be selling these shirts on our site very soon. Here is a sneak preview of what they will look like!

Currently these shirts are in production. And of course these shirts are going to be on high quality organic cotton :) and approved with the Twins stamp of approval ;)

**We will take pre-orders on these 100% organic cotton shirts – just email us at twins at pure2raw.com.  If you are going to the FitBloggin event you will receive a 5% discount. These is a great way to advertise your blog and workout at the same time. They will be great conversation starters. You will see Pure2Raw Twins wearing these shirts while at the FitBloggin event in March.

i blog all day

“ I blog all day”

And

if you think im cute

“If you think I’m cute you should see my blog”

**Please not these images are just an artist renderings not actually photos. Once we get the ‘actual shirts’ in we will post them :)

We wanted to create shirts that were fun and that everyone could work-out in!

Readers and non FitBloggin attendees can benefit from wearing one too :) More t-shirts to come! We are so excited!

Thrive + pre-workout snack

Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 09:22 AM

Hey luvs

Glad to see everyone enjoyed our version of the childhood classic Oatmeal Kreme Pie Cookie.

Lori and I have been trying to create new pre-workout snacks, because the ones from the marathon worked so well for us that we are interested in creating more.

Check out the one we created yesterday:

IMG_4417

Can you guess what it is??

IMG_4422It was so good!! You all know we love our puddings ; )

This one was a blend of our coconut kefir mixed with banana, coconut oil, dates, vanilla, spirulina, maca, and sprinkled with cacao nibs

We just finished reading the latest book from the wonderful Brendan Brazier and we would like to thank the team of Vega for sending us the book to read!! We loved it!

Brendan’s new book is a continuation of his first book Thrive, another great read if you have not read it already! Thrive focused on the basics of fitness and the importance of proper nutrition. Thrive Fitness is geared to improving your athletic performance. Now some people may be thinking they are not athletes, but I feel anyone who loves to get a good workout in is an athlete. There are just different levels of athletes ; ) because there are all types of exercise!!

We feel everyone would benefit from reading Brendan’s new book. Individuals new to working out would start to see the benefits of a regular fitness routine. As veterans you can see how you can improve your endurance and stamina. Now what person does not what that for their workouts ? People who just workout on an everyday bases, like us, would benefit because there are little tips that you may not have thought to try before, plus there are more great recipes!!

We love how Brendan refers to it as lifestyle. Lori and I totally agree because change does not happen overnight. We have to constantly work at it, but the key is to find something that you enjoy. As Brendan says, if you enjoy something you tend to stick with it!

I enjoyed learning more about short high intensity trainings. Back in high school I can attest that this works because over the summers we would have some hard intense training sessions with our volleyball coach. Nothing like you can imagine. We did all types of jump training activities out the hot Florida heat, followed by sprints, running up and down bleachers. Well to make my point, at the beginning of our training our coach measured our performance on a few things, one was our vertical jump. And at the end of the summer Lori and I both improved our vertical jump by 7 IN!!!! That is huge!!! Our coach was blown away…I must say we both were in the best shape of our lives then. Oh sometimes I wish I could go back….sometimes ; )

I would recommend everyone to read Thrive Fitness because whether you are a beginner or seasonal athlete, each person can learn and take what they want away from Brendan’s tips. And I love learning something new ;  )  We should all look at ourselves as everyday students. That you can never learn too much, that everyone has something new to bring to the table.

Brendan does a great job reviewing what key ingredients are needed for good fitness. I like how he has a nutrition and training log, which is great for those who need to visualize things to reach their goals. Lori and I both have been enjoying our new style of workouts and are excited to try some of Brendan’s recipes to see if we notice anything from them.

Check back in tomorrow…here is a sneak peak why…

Protein Debate

Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 10:02 AM

Hey friends,

Glad to see everyone liked our pizza and key lime cookie sandwich! We both felt great after eating this pizza, which in the past was not always the case due to nuts found in most raw pizza recipes (Ian would understand your issue with too many nuts).  We are happy we were able to make our pizza nut free ; ) We had happy tummies.

Check us out on Crazy Sexy Life…we are so excited to share our story!! Let us know what you think.

Today we wanted to talk about a topic that is a bit controversial.

P-R-O-T-E-I-N

Some readers asked us about where we get our protein?  We have a lot we could say on this topic but going to try to keep it short.

When we first when vegan to be honest we never thought about protein. Actually we never thought about being deficient in anything. Our focus was to feel better, have energy, and most of all have happy tummies again.

IMG_4328

We grew up with two older sisters that were into body building. They ate a very very high protein diet with little carbs and pretty much no fat. And they gained muscle, a lot of muscle. They looked great during their training, but Lori and I never wanted to look all muscular. We want to look lean and long….like a dancers body, even though we are not dancers ; ) (Note: our sisters do not eat this way…they are almost vegans now ; ) )

We eat for energy…we eat to thrive. Animal proteins and dairy cause acidity in the body, which can lead to gaining fat. Acid gets stored in fat cells. One of our favorite books is Eating for Energy by Yuri Elkaim, Yuri goes into this topic in great detail, check it out. Working out causes acid. Meat and dairy cause acid. Solution – eat raw alkaline foods….like greens to help the body use energy to restore muscles!!

Brendan Brazier has two great books about fitness and eating for optimal performance. (our review on Thrive fitness coming soon) And then our friend Tim talks a lot about fitness, food, and protein. Check out his video where he talks about protein myths.

When you eat to much animal products, whether they are high in fat or lean, you still make your stomach and digestive system work harder to break down these heavy proteins into their amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks to build muscle tissue. Plant based foods on the other hand are a lot easier for the body to digest due to being smaller chains and/or individual amino acids. Amino acids are a pure source of protein…this is what we are looking for!!

We do not eat beans or soy, and eat little nuts, so where do the twins get their protein?

Pure2raw Protein sources:

  • hemp seeds/hemp protein powder  (full of amino acids)
  • Vega Health Optimizer (hemp, pea, and rice protein)
  • Tahini/sesame seeds (good source of calcium too which lost in workouts)
  • Dark leafy greens  (the darker the better)
  • Spirulina (contains all 22 amino acids that the body requires)
  • Pumpkin seeds (also a great source of iron, which is lost when working out)
  • Bee Pollen (we do not eat this all the time, I know not vegan, gasp, but it a complete protein)
  • Chorella (great source of concentrated amino acids)

Greens have the highest amount of amino acid per oz than any other food….one reason we love our green smoothies!! We have noticed ever since we started eating a high raw diet, and following some of Brendan’s tips we have started to notice our bodies change. They are small changes, but positive ones, it is still a journey. Every thing takes hard work and time! We can work out hard for a shorter amount of time and are still getting results. We do not get sore, even after our marathon we were not sore. We can train less, which is great for us because with a busy schedule we can only get in short workouts.

Now to some people we may not be getting enough protein, but for us we feel we are getting the right amount.  Plant based proteins are easy to digest and are easier for the body to absorb the nutrients, so you get all the protein. Your body does not waste energy digesting them as your body would if digesting animal protein. If you still prefer to eat animal products, please get organic and local!!! They will be better quality than what you find in the stores.

Lori attempting side crow

Lori attempting side crow

But for those who do not believe you can gain muscle while being vegan please check out the amazing Kristen’s blog about protein.

Our friend Heather did a great post here. Check it out. Remember everyone ones is different and can handle different amounts of protein….fats….sugar….carbs….etc.  We have noticed the same results as Heather with eating more fats and less protein. You just find your own balance! Find what works for you  to get the results you want. Remember it is a journey!

We just know from our experience we do not need a lot of protein. Protein tends to slow us down. Our workouts lately have been mostly yoga and our newest obsession is Tracy Anderson’s Mat workout. We bought a few weeks ago and started it over the weekend.

Well speaking of fitness it is time for us to go work out!

Till next time,

Michelle

Staying true to yourself

Monday, February 1, 2010 at 04:44 PM

Good evening luvs,

We are on a roll with making delicious recipes over here at P2R. Now if you have hemp seeds laying around you really need to make this sauce! It is so light and creamy and a little ‘nutty’! Love it :)

What have the twins been up to for workouts lately?

Well, we have really been focusing on our yoga. And doing this fantastic DVD! Staying active at home is key especially when you are snowed in ;) We also have been doing lots of extra hip opening exercises and head stands. Loving it all!

This month we are really trying to do our workouts with a focus. Each day we are going to dedicate our yoga practice or whatever we do for a workout with an intention. Example: today’s practice for me was to be more confident!

Michelle’s intention was: to not care what others think- do her own thing ( I know that might sound selfish but we all need to start doing it)

For a great read about not letting others get to you check out here!

This article really got both of us thinking. Do we worry too much about what others think? YES!

Why? Not sure!

Both of us are not sure why we are always worrying about what others think of us. We try really hard to do just our own thing but it can be difficult. By having this blog has been a great experience for us both. We have meet so many great people and those people we now consider friends :)

Though by having this blog and reading so many other great blogs it can be very difficult not to compare yourself to others or stay true to who you are!

Does anyone else have this feeling as well?

I thinking having health, fitness, beauty, food blogs are great! I love reading them :) though trying to remind myself of who I am and not judge myself can be a challenge. I do admit most of the time reading other blogs can sometimes make me second guess my own choices and why I do things. But than again sometimes it makes me happy with my choices and makes me what to do better.

So in a way all of you are making me a better person by challenging myself to do my best. :)

Therefore, thanks to all of you for making Michelle and I push ourselves to our limits. Now it is just up to us not to worry about what ‘others’ might think of us no matter what we do. Because we write, eat, exercise, love, etc for ourselves!

Do you feel the same mental challenges with your blog or in your life?

Other Great News:

Due to request for a variety pack of all our pure2raw product offerings we have made some changes to our online store. Please check out for more information. *though more of a sample pack is something we are still working out the details

We are also running a 10% off special on some of our popular items like our rosemary cracker (our version of a Triscuit and Wheat thin) and our swiss chard black sesame chia flatbread (a lovely crispy and flavorful bread).

Jan 2010 pics 592  Jan 2010 pics 567

We forgot to mention some great giveaways going on earlier this morning that are definitely worth checking out.

Our good friend Stephanie is giving away Chobani – so for all your greek yogurt lovers check it out!

Laurens glass straws – love these

Kristen’s chia seeds – can’t get enough of these :)

Déjà Vu

Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 08:47 AM

Good Morning friends,

Glad to see everyone liking our malted chocolate avocado pudding, so good. I will share the recipe with you next time I make it. It has been a little crazy around here, but it a good way ;) They are predicting snow, sleet and ice this coming weekend! Which means not sure what is going to happen with the farmers market :/

Workout:

Yesterday Michelle and I took to the road for an easy run. We did about 40 minutes total of a mix of running and walking. We geared up in our Under Armour clothing that we were in for our marathon because it was in the 20s again for our morning run. It was déjà vu for us.

Does déjà vu ever happen to you? One thing that my boyfriend always says when it happens to him that he tries really hard to think of what is going to happen next! Now that is what I always think of when deja vu happens to me!

It felt glorious to just put our shoes and warm clothes on and just run. We didn’t really have any set time or goal we just wanted to get outside and stretch the legs a little. Sometimes I enjoy those runs more than when I actually have a set time or distance. Or maybe it was because I was not training for anything. My mind was free and ready to just enjoy the run :)

Though it was weird running outside freezing when there was nothing to be training for at the moment :/

To treat ourselves when we got back we whipped a creamy delicious smoothie

Jan 2010 pics more 511

Gladly enjoyed this smoothie out of our marathon wine cups :) This green smoothie was filled with parsley, banana, spinach, coconut oil, msm powder, maca, lemon juice, and ginger! Superb! Great combination to have after a run, got the potassium, iron, alkalinity to put my body back to balance!

Little bit later got the munchies so grabbed some fermented veggies and a big scoop of tahini.

Jan 2010 pics more 540

Was a little bit on the cold side so made some coconut milk chai tea with a slice of raw onion flatbread

Jan 2010 pics more 544

Than it was time for LUNCH! Well it was a little late lunch. But we enjoyed an arugula avocado wilted salad with some dulse flakes, lemon juice, and a sprinkle of our cheez crackers :) Splendid!

We did enjoy this salad of real food while watching the all anticipated Oprah.

Our thoughts on the show:

1) Overall great that Oprah brought this very important topic to her show :)

2) Michael Pollen is truly inspirational and makes you want to really spread the world about how much the food industry has changed. Please go out and see Food Inc and make your own opinions! Knowledge is power!

3) Little disappointed that not more was said about really “HOW” to change the government and food industry to stop making Americans fat! Stop hiding sugar  and corn in our foods!!!!!!

4) Wish they showed more of the impact of the meat industry and the overall food industry has on the environment – how it impacts your local community, local farmers, etc. And especially how it impacts our kids generations, and their generations to come! How it is so hard for people to get fresh produce? Why does have to be so hard for people to eat healthy? Why is buying a can of processed food ok with people? Remember you have choices and options!

I would rather pay $2.00 for an apple over paying medical bills the rest of my life. And with wholesome foods less is more!

Ok well that is my two cents on the matter! Sorry for being so bold about everything it is a topic that I am very passionate about. I just care so much for the general health of Americans and really would love to change how people view their food :)

What were your thoughts if you got to see it? If not, what are your thoughts in general about the food industry and how our food has changed so much over the years?

Do you think the overall show was a success or failure?

Want to do know why to go vegan?

Dinner was a simple coconut kefir spirulina smoothie with coconut oil, sunflower lecthin, stevia, and yacon syrup! Sprinkled a little cacao nibs on top for a little bonus!

Later we sipped on some kombucha!

Bake Sale and Yoga love

Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 01:24 PM

Hey friends,

*for those of you who have emailed us or left us a question in the comment section we are working on getting back to each and every one of you soon :)

How is everyone? Everyone spreading the word about the great bake sale that is happening on The Chic Life!!!! It is a great cause to raise money for Haiti!

Now onto the fun stuff… food!

Yesterday morning started with our a delicious green smoothie

Don’t worry we did not have another green smoothie instead our mid-afternoon snack was this mouthwatering chocolate lovers delight

Jan 2010 pics more 452

Malted Chocolate avocado pudding! One of our best ones yet :)

Sweetened with stevia and some dates.

Pure Bliss! We love our raw cacao and carob! A girl can never have too much chocolate ;)

Now this snack is going to be hard to beat?!?!

But….

Is 3pm too early to have a drink?!?!

Just kidding. This is just our water kefir. Though we like to put in our wine glasses it helps make us feel classy and proper ;) We love it! Another great afternoon snack in our opinion! Great way to pump up our good bacteria!

Dinner was a little different for the both of us!

I had a very simple yet classy dinner – a mix of fermented veggies and sauerkraut mixed in a jar with lots of tahini about 2 tbsp worth :) Heather seriously made eating out of a jar so much fun! Thanks girl!

My favorite condiment at the moment – TAHINI (always saves the day)

Jan 2010 pics more 500

Seriously raw tahini and raw fermented veggies go great together! Perfect marriage of flavors in my opinion!!!!

Lori wanted to be a little different! GASP! She was craving something a little warm.

Lori had a mix of her fermented veggies and sauerkraut though made a creamy veggie mash on the side!

Topped the fermented veggies with some hemp seeds. A little ‘healthy fat’ booster to the meal!

Jan 2010 pics more 486

She just might share the recipe with you all ;) It is not your average mash!!!!

Jan 2010 pics more 488 I just had to take a bite! So good and creamy. Fantastic!

The remaining of the evening was boring! We just drank lemon water :) Nice!

Workout:

Morning routine. Really enjoying our morning yoga sessions. We did try some yoga studios last week that we mentioned before though due to money reasons can’t go all the time. So we decided to create our own ‘yoga class’ at home and we do it almost every morning.

We get our yoga inspiration from these great ladies Averie, Heather, Jenna. Also my yoga love started with my friend Gina where we both fell in love with it while at 105 degrees and I know that Whit, Lori and Stephanie are all falling in love with yoga as well :) Look Averie at all the yoga love going around :) Hopefully soon Lori and I will be as good as you ;)

Lori and I have really been enjoying our yoga sessions every morning! We are realizing that it is a journey and a practice not something you become good at overnight. Yoga really helps calm us down and brings awareness to ourselves. It really has been strengthening not our body but also our minds :) Love that! I highly recommend incorporating some form of yoga into our daily fitness routine! Your body and mind will thank you for it!

Time for us to go watch some Oprah while we do some work. Going to be a good show today. Check it out.

And remember about the Haiti Bakesale!

Till next time,

Michelle
