And our latest kraut meal is paired with another favorite
Kelp Kraut Noodles
All we did was take our sauerkraut blend in blender with some spices and tahini to make an easy and poured over some kelp noodles. And add in some arugula! Easy and delicious We just love pretty much anything with kelp noodles
Here is how we make sauerkraut (sorry for the blurry video – not sure why it is so blurry, ugh)
Now go buy some cabbage and make yourself a nice, easy and healthy homemade sauerkraut. Please let us know if you make and report back! We love to hear from you!
Take Care. Thanks for joining us again for another Pure2raw lesson!
Love all the less meat protein sources support from you all! Lori and I are still trying to find our balance with everything though each week we feel we are understanding our bodies better
Lately we have been enjoying some delicious eats. We attempted to re-create the Little Debbie oatmeal creme pies (one of our childhood favorites) and this is what we came up with: our raw ‘oatmeal’ kreme cookies
Needs just a little bit more tweaking and I think we have it
We have been enjoying some fresh vegetable juices in the morning
Great way to start the day! So far our tummies have been enjoying our fresh juices again. By having such a light breakfast has been nice both with our ‘eliminations’ and giving us energy for the day!
Been enjoying lots of our homemade sauerkrauts Made a bunch of it this past weekend
This one we top with ground hemp seeds (which is another new thing we are trying – grinding all our seeds into flour form before eating, this helps with inflamed and sensitive stomachs by having things in flour form not whole seeds)
Our green smoothies have turned into our post-workout shakes YUM
Absolutely mouth-watering. We wanted to try putting some sweet (the tart crust) with something savory like sauerkraut mixed with tahini as the filling. Love the sweet and savory flavors together. Do plan on making more meals like this
Second part of dinner
Than dessert was this
And some of this
Just kidding, both of these raw desserts (oreo tart and banana kreme filled cupcake) are for our farmers market this weekend. I just love my job!
Later this week we will give a hormonal balance update! I know many of you have been asking us so we will discuss it again soon.
How is your Friday?? So glad everyone enjoyed our story about us becoming bakers and creating Twin Cakes Bakery. In cased you missed them you read them here, Part 1 and Part 2.
Don’t forget we announce the winner to our giveaway tomorrow...so get your comments in today!
We have been extremely busy here…non-stop in the kitchen getting all our Twin Cakes Valentine’s Day Orders in.
We even didn’t get to eat till after 1. Just been snacking on this and that in the morning…a random day of eats for us. But the weird thing is that we have been feeling good. By not eating too much in the morning has actually given us more energy…which sometimes is hard for us because we were raised you have to eat breakfast.
Well this maybe true but we are starting to realize for us not having a huge breakfast has been nice for our energy levels. It is hard not to eat right away in the morning, but as long as we are busy we do not even think about eating, sort of ; )
Do you have mornings were you do not eat much? How do you feel? What are your thoughts on eating breakfast or no breakfast?
Now do not get us wrong, we do eat something, just not a full blow meal! And this past week we have not been eating till around 10 am. We are playing around with our morning eats, which means we have been having later workouts. We will keep you posted, but in the mean time check out Gena’s great tips for breakfast. I could go for some of those green eggs!!!
Anyways here are some food we have been eating these past few days
Kraut Salad drizzled with tahini
Avocado pudding drizzled with yacon
roasted butternut squash & brussel sprouts, with fermented veggies and some white stuff, aka coconut oil ; )
Coconut kefir pudding with coconut oil, hemp protein and yacon
pure2raw cracker wtih tahini (that we blended with cashews and maple)...sweet and savory!!
pure2raw cheez cracker dipped into cashew tahini maple spread...it was uniquely good!!
*for those of you who have emailed us or left us a question in the comment section we are working on getting back to each and every one of you soon
How is everyone? Everyone spreading the word about the great bake sale that is happening on The Chic Life!!!! It is a great cause to raise money for Haiti!
Now onto the fun stuff… food!
Yesterday morning started with our a delicious green smoothie
Lunch was another smoothie made with our coconut kefir with some coconut oil, basil, stevia, and some lemon
Don’t worry we did not have another green smoothie instead our mid-afternoon snack was this mouthwatering chocolate lovers delight
Malted Chocolate avocado pudding! One of our best ones yet
Sweetened with stevia and some dates.
Pure Bliss! We love our raw cacao and carob! A girl can never have too much chocolate
Now this snack is going to be hard to beat?!?!
But….
Is 3pm too early to have a drink?!?!
Just kidding. This is just our water kefir. Though we like to put in our wine glasses it helps make us feel classy and proper We love it! Another great afternoon snack in our opinion! Great way to pump up our good bacteria!
Dinner was a little different for the both of us!
I had a very simple yet classy dinner – a mix of fermented veggies and sauerkraut mixed in a jar with lots of tahini about 2 tbsp worth Heather seriously made eating out of a jar so much fun! Thanks girl!
My favorite condiment at the moment – TAHINI (always saves the day)
Seriously raw tahini and raw fermented veggies go great together! Perfect marriage of flavors in my opinion!!!!
Lori wanted to be a little different! GASP! She was craving something a little warm.
Lori had a mix of her fermented veggies and sauerkraut though made a creamy veggie mash on the side!
Topped the fermented veggies with some hemp seeds. A little ‘healthy fat’ booster to the meal!
She just might share the recipe with you all It is not your average mash!!!!
I just had to take a bite! So good and creamy. Fantastic!
The remaining of the evening was boring! We just drank lemon water Nice!
Workout:
Morning routine. Really enjoying our morning yoga sessions. We did try some yoga studios last week that we mentioned before though due to money reasons can’t go all the time. So we decided to create our own ‘yoga class’ at home and we do it almost every morning.
We get our yoga inspiration from these great ladies Averie, Heather,Jenna. Also my yoga love started with my friend Gina where we both fell in love with it while at 105 degrees and I know that Whit, Lori and Stephanie are all falling in love with yoga as well Look Averie at all the yoga love going around Hopefully soon Lori and I will be as good as you
Lori and I have really been enjoying our yoga sessions every morning! We are realizing that it is a journey and a practice not something you become good at overnight. Yoga really helps calm us down and brings awareness to ourselves. It really has been strengthening not our body but also our minds Love that! I highly recommend incorporating some form of yoga into our daily fitness routine! Your body and mind will thank you for it!
Time for us to go watch some Oprah while we do some work. Going to be a good show today. Check it out.
Congrats to all the Disney Half Marathon Runners!!! What a day it was.
Our older sis Jen, and her mother-in-law, Sally, made it!!!
The sis told us our spirulina sports drink helped get her through the race. She felt great despite the cold, rainy weather : )
She was upset it was empty, but no worries we had another one filled for her!
Check out the bottle in her pocket!
She also enjoyed some of the goodies Lori and I will be enjoying tomorrow on our race day, so glad to see they worked!!
We did not sleep much last night, plus got up 3am with the sis to get her all ready. Then laid back down for an hour then it was time to get dressed to go stand in the cold as we cheer them on.
Before we left the hotel we each grabbed two fudge brownie bites. Then after seeing Jen and Sally outside our hotel, which was around mile marker 4.5. We jumped on the monorail and to meet them over at the Grand Floridian.
As we watched Jen and Sally head down the road back to Epcot, we jumped back on monorail and ran up to the room to have ourselves some of raw coconut yogurt with msm and yacon syrup. Sorry no picture we were in a hurry.
Then we headed back on monorail to head to Epcot and watch them cross the finish line.
They made it!!! Smiling : )
Now we are back at hotel getting ready to the blogger lunch!
Although we did grab some food just in case we cannot find something we can eat.
Handful of raw crackers
Slice of onion bread
And about 1/2 cup of unpictured raw sauerkraut with tahini…yes out of the jar!!!
Now sipping on a cup of ginger tea to warm up and then we are heading in a few minutes ; )
Well as many people are running in the half marathon this morning like Sabrina, Katy, and Melissa to name just a few. We wanted to wish them all the best of luck in the race
We have been getting questions of why we are eating the foods we are eating before our race and we plan to share that with you all over these next few days.
We started our day yesterday with a few chocolate truffles and treated ourselves to some coffee.
Than we went to the hotel’s gym to do a easy 30 minute workout. We did a mix of walk, sprint, and easy jog. Then we did a little stretching. Felt great!
Back in the room we enjoyed a romaine grapefruit smoothie with some maca, coconut oil, sunflower lecthin, and msm powder. Delicious!!!! It got thick from the coconut oil so it turned out to be more like a pudding!
Seriously one of the best ways to start the day!! Although it turned out to be our lunch.
Next we packed up all our bags again and moved into another hotel! Traveling with us can be crazy sometimes!
As we drove over to the other hotel we snacked on some raw crackers that we made before leaving NC.
This is our home for the next two days. This is the new tower at the Contemporary Resort.
By the time we unloaded all the bags again we got a little hungry. So Michelle whipped up some coconut yogurt with some spirulina, yacon syrup, and chia seeds.
Plus we sipped on some kombucha.
Then it was time to start making all the goodies for this weekend. All of our pre-workout, during workout, and after workout goodies.
Had to buy some more bananas though – the older sis wanted some of our treats! She wanted energy too and didn’t want to be left out ! Love her!
These little bananas cost us $5.50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Better be some good bananas!
Dinner – Round One
One jar of sauerkraut with hemp seeds
Round Two
One jar of fermented veggies (daikon, leeks, beets, carrots) topped with dulse flakes and tahini once again!!!!! Heather we are in love!!!!
Dessert was a few more chocolate truffles! YUM! Can’t get enough of these babies. Good thing we made a double batch.
Our older sister gave us a surprise!
Thanks sis YOU ARE THE BEST!!! It was a package full of marathon goodies to help get us get through the race.
Some water, epsom salt, hand warmers, hand bands, chapstick, nose strips, and kleenax plus a few more things!
Well time to go cheer everyone on and than Food Bloggers Lunch with a bunch of great girls. We are very excited to meet everyone!
Sorry that our music playlist came out so small. We are not sure what happened when we imported it ; /
As we mentioned earlier that we were having technology issues. But we are back in action. Glad to see everyone enjoying our first video!!!
Here is our day yesterday!!!!
Today we started our morning with one of our typical green smoothies, similar to yesterday.
Glass of water kefir was a mid-morning snack.
Lunch was a glorious salad with fermented veggies, raw sauerkraut, and a slice of raw onion flatbread. Perfect!!! This kept us full all afternoon : )
Snack was un-pictured chocolate macaroons and glass of our homemade Kombucha. We had to show the sis a scoby!!
Then we debated if we wanted to go for a quick run or hit up the expo. We decided the expo to hopefully beat the crowd.
At Disney Marathon Expo at the Wide World of Sports.
Older sis Jen and Lori
Where is Michelle??? Sorry for the dark picture
Oh there I am!
Getting excited for the race…we think ; )
The expo was crazy as it is every year. Although this year was our first year going on Thursday (our past races Friday is normally the day we arrived), which was nice because it was a little less crowded.
We did browse all the booths but nothing really sparked our interest. It is the same thing every year. Well the expo took longer than we expected, so no workout today : (
We got our goody bag, race bib, race t-shirt, and these most essential post race celebration tools
By the time we got back, we were starving and quickly gobbled down some yummy eats.
The first part was inspired by the wonderful Heather.
Our first meal out of a jar full of fermented carrots and daikon plus a couple spoonfuls of tahini.
Yummy and creamyWe sprinkled in dulse and nutritional yeast!
Seriously this was the best meal….something we plan to recreate again. Heather I think we love tahini just as much as you do : )
Hopefully we made you proud Heather.
Second part of our meal was our homemade raw yogurt which we stirred in chia seeds and drizzled with yacon syrup!! YUM! Look like ice cream.
And of course we have been staying hydrated with our lots of water and some coconut water : ) Gotta love Zico!!
Then we quickly rushed and packed the cars and headed to our hotel. Well hotel number one for this night. This part is a little confusing, our sister got us a room closer for the marathon, the resort we try to stay at every time therefore we leave here tomorrow to check in there tomorrow. The joys of being in our family…we tend to make things a bit more complicated.
My older sister and her husband our Disney Vacation club members and had a room for the weekend at Saratoga Springs at the same time of the marathon.
Anyone want to go for a swim??
This was our first time here and we were blown away of how nice it is that we are sad to have to check out tomorrow. : (
Nice pic….Lori in the background, haha.
Cute little kitchen…oh yes we filled the fridge
Green Smoothie? Or Raw sauerkraut anyone? Or maybe raw yogurt? Are you surprised?? haha
Having a fridge is a must now for us raw vegans : )
As promised here is the recipe for the classic holiday side dish green bean casserole. We were really pleased how it turned out ; )
Pure2Raw Recipe: Semi Raw Green been casserole
Ingredients:
About ½ lb of green beans, washed and trimmed
1 tbsp coconut oil
Directions:
Place coconut oil in saucepan over medium heat. Add in your green beans a lightly sauté till your desired tenderness ( we let ours go for about 4-5 minutes)
Here are the done green beans
Now we did in ours in a skillet, but you could also lightly steam them.
When done set that in a bowl and get ready to make sauce.
Pure2Raw Recipe: Raw Creamy White sauce
Now our sauce base is not your usually cream of mushroom soup. We were making pumpkin milk the other day and had left sunflower seeds so we threw those it too. Why not, right? Well some of the pulp was thicker. So we got to thinking I wonder if this would make a good sauce? What the heck… let’s try and see!
VIOLA! Our base for green bean casserole was born.
Ingredients:
1 cup of sunflower pumpkin seed milk pulp (substitute soaked sunflower seeds)
1 tbsp tahini
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 date (you can use agave or honey, or stevia)
1 tsp sunflower lecithin (can use soy lecithin or just omit)
½ tsp salt
pinch black pepper
½ tsp thyme
1 small shallot or half of one
Directions:
Place all ingredients into blender and blend till creamy!
Time to pour the sauce over the green beans
And stir sauce around to make sure all green beans are coated.
Now time for topping
Topping:
Caramelized onions
What you need:
Half of white onion sliced thinly
1-2 tbsp Olive oil
Splash Balsamic vinegar
Pinch salt
Directions:
Coat the onions with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
Spread out onto dehydrator sheet
Then we dehydrated them for a few hours. Or you may do this in a skillet. The way I used to eat cooked onions was using very little oil and high heat. It doesn’t take too long, but I used to love crispy, burnt things so I would let it go longer than most people
Now to put the whole dish together. Simply top your coated green beans with some of the caramelized onions.
And there you have it folks a nice, simple semi-raw, vegan, gluten free healthy side dish for your holiday meals.
Enjoy!
Thanks for stopping for our recipe for a healthy alternative for this holiday season.
Thank you for all the wonderful comments and glad to hear everyone loves themed weeks! Also we enjoyed reading your go to desserts : )
As promised, here are the two recipes from yesterday. They are great ways to enjoy fresh cranberries while in season.
Plus we are introducing a new ingredients we have recently come across and we are so excited to share it with you!!
We were searching for a soy free lecithin to use in our recipes and knew there had to be something. It took as awhile to find a soy free lecithin but we eventually made it to Raw Food World Online Store, There are a few reasons why we love this product:
Soy Free
Emulsifier (which helps digest fat)
Choline (necessary for brain and liver function)
Can be used to thick products (great for raw puddings and soups)
Raw, Vegan, Gluten Free Non GMO
This was our first time using sunflower lecithin, and so far we are liking it. : ) The flavor is a not too made, a little getting used too…it is a neutral flavor.
Another cool thing about sunflower lecithin is that it is LIQUID. Most lecithin come in powder or granules.
Why is Choline important?
Choline Bitartrate is an essential nutrient needed by the nervous system to produce acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that facilitates the transmission of impulses between neurons. It helps with muscle function.
Choline is vital for removing fat from the liver because it helps in the production of lipotropic agents. Choline nutrition is very helpful in hormone production and in enhancing sexual function, as well as bladder, kidney, pancreatic, testicular, and liver function.
As an important component of cell membranes, lecithin is needed by every cell of the body. Without lecithin, liver metabolism is deranged, leading to "fatty liver" and eventually chronic liver failure.
Other sources of choline for raw, vegans that eat no soy:
bananas, apples, oranges, cauliflower, cucumber, and tomato, almonds, sesame seeds
